Hi Guys,

I just want to follow up regarding my post yesterday. I feel significantly better and the pain/lump in my throat is almost entirely gone. I visited the ENT doctor for a follow up appointment and he did another endoscopy through my nose and down my throat (again, entirely painless; the only discomfort was from the initial cutetip he put in my nose to numb it). He said that the swelling in my throat was already about 75% down. The difference between yesterday and today is night and day!

My medications include the following (I take them all at once, with food; it seems like a lot but is just three pills total):

- Prednisone (20mg tablets); this is the steroid I referred to in my post yesterday to reduce swelling; I took 2 yesterday and one today; I have one more to take tomorrow

- Ranitidine (150mg tablets); this is to counter the gastric effects of taking the Prednisone; it is helping some, but my stomach does not feel great, however, it is manageable and something I am more than willing to do deal with given the absence of my throat lump; I took one tablet yesterday and one today; I have a total of 8 tablets left

- Amoxicillin with Clavulanate (875mg tablets); this is to treat the infection; took one tablet yesterday and one so far today; I will take another this evening; I have a total of 18 tablets left (one tablet by mouth twice daily)

I will keep everyone updated on how I am feeling and whether this swallowing difficulty disappears entirely. Prednisone is known to have some side effects, but the only one I have so far experienced is the stomach discomfort, which as mentioned is not unbearable.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Hi guys,

Following up one more time.

It turns out that I have a bacteria in my throat called serratia (http://www.ehow.com/list_6914114_treatments-serratia-bacteria_.html), following the culture sample taken. My ENT doctor put me on a new set of antibiotics called ciprofloxacin to combat the bacteria, as serratia is resistant to amoxicillin. This is a 10-day dosage. I have not started taking it yet because you cannot exercise, have prolonged sun exposure, or consume alcohol on it (and I will be on vacation in Miami this weekend!).

Given that I currently am having no symptoms and no longer experiencing any pain or lump in my throat, I am going to hold off on taking the new antibiotic.

I will update everyone if the lump returns, but for now, it is completely gone!

I strongly encourage you all to book an ENT appointment if you are experiencing the lump symptoms. It was well worth it and helped me discover that I had a nasty bacteria hanging out inside of my throat!

Hello, my 6 year old daughter began feeling as if their is something in her throat. She can't swallow she says then begins to panic really bad. What was your result? I took her to Emergency twice n her doctor, they say she's fine, that she's just having panic attacks. Well the panic attack comes after the "something's in my throat n I can't swallow". See she's only 6 and I think it's more. Please help!

I'm sorry but I would like to see more solutions then relative stories -_-!!

I am fairly certain the solution has been made clear: go see an ENT doctor. There is no one-stop solution for this myserious "lump in throat" because, as it has been made incredibly apparent, there are a wide range of possible diagnoses for such symptoms. So, last poster, it would be great if you were thankful for those who provided details on their stories rather than complain about people trying to help you. It is also incredibly helpful when people take the time to read the replies, rather the reposting the exact same question that has already been posed.

I will say that the "ALL CAPS THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME HERE IS HOW TO SOLVE IT" approach to replying is not particularly effective because it is simply distracting. Let's save the Caps Lock button for other forums.

Hi, we went to ENT on Monday the 1st, the Dr. Mentioned that her feeling is tissue called adenoids and her tonsils. His solution is to remove her tonsils. I took her to ER three times, and every time they didn't find anything except nose drip. Her primary Dr. continued to say its just from her panicking, which I still disagree with cause she is no longer panicking but the feeling is still present. She has more symptoms; sore throat, numb tounge, jaw hurts and she having stuffed nose.

I will keep you posted...

Globus_Pharyngis

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_Pharyngis

A less common cause, distinguished by a "lump in the throat" accompanied with clicking sensation and considerable pain when swallowing, may be due to thyroid-cartilage rubbing against anomalous asymmetrical laryngeal anatomy e.g. the superior cornu abrading against the thyroid lamina,[4][5] surgically trimming the offending thyroid-cartilage provides immediate relief in all cases.[1] However this cause is frequently misdiagnosed, despite requiring a simple clinical examination involving careful palpation of the neck side to side which elicits the same click sensation (laryngeal crepitus) and pain as when swallowing, most cases are due to prior trauma to the neck.[1] High resolution computed tomographic (CT) or MRI scan of the larynx is usually required to fully understand the anomalous laryngeal anatomy. Anterior displacement the thyroid ala on the affected side while swallowing can help resolve symptoms.

I'm 15, smoke and dip and over the last few days I've felt this lump in my throat near the middle. The only time I notice it is when i swallow or cough but it doesn't hurt, just irritating. It comes and goes. I swallow and I feel it and I move my throat around then I don't feel. I'm worried wondering if it could be cancer or a tumer or just allergies. I don't have insurance or anything so the doctors out of the question. Any ideas what it could be. Please help

I am experiencing the same throat problem.  Several months ago, I had a very bad cough.  One doctor diagnosed it as bronchitis, another said that I had a post viral cough.  It took me over a month to get better.  Since then, I still have an occasional cough, but it also resulted in my feeling like something is stuck in my throat.  If I lay on my left side, it feels like I am choking and I began to cough.  It gets very scary sometimes.  I do not have any medical insurance and really cannot afford a doctor's visit that will require xrays, etc.
