I had a hemorrhoidetomy two days ago. I want to post in the hopes I can ease some anxiety for those of you considering the surgery. I read a lot of stories before having it done (bad idea). Everyone's experience is going to be different, but so far mine is nothing like most of the stories I have read. I know it's only been two days, but here goes. So far my pain has yet to exceed a three. (It's only a three while having a BM). It has been very uncomfortable, but is tolerable. Here is what I have been doing: I am prescribed Percocet. I take one and then two hours later take 800mg of ibuprofen. Then two hours later another Percocet and so on. Since opiates cause constipation, TAKE A STOOL SOFTENER. Every time I take a Percocet, I drink eight ounces of water mixed with miralax. My first bowel movement was not as bad as I thought it would be. With that being said, I do feel sore since I have had a few small BM's, but small and soft seems to be key. Also, use the sitz bath to relieve pain and clean the area after a BM.  I've had a small amount of bleeding, but nothing to be concerned about.

I've been eating what I want. Listen to your body and relax. Take the pain medication as prescribed and alternate with the ibuprofen. Do not allow too much time to lapse between pain med doses. You need to keep the medication in your system. I hope this is helpful.

P.S. Stop reading horror stories! It only makes it worse! Trust me!
