When I was around 5-6 years old I used to get in trouble for makeing noises and other tics. my parents always punished me because i was anoying. even the pediatrition said it was an attention getter. no one even seemed to know or care I couldnt control these tics and despratly wanted to. kids called me retarted. through my high school years it got better (less often) when i got the volcal tics they lasted weeks then disapeared. when I got a job working with kids I got by with telling everyone i had the hicups.( the kind of sound i make) when I brought my son to a nurologest when he was 8 because he had some nervous tics he was diagnosed with adhd and treated for that and motor tic disorder. his meds made him worse so I took him off and he did better. I saw a show on a talkshow about touretts and my sister called me and said Thats what you have!!!! all these years I finaly found out and got to show my family It was not controlable. Im 36 now and still battling with it. I make the hicup noise alot and tell people its my breathing like asthma or something, I even lie to my husband about it because I was brought up to feel ahamed of it. my son is 16 he has eye tics and has to crack his nukles, toes and neck constantly. we havent been to any dr.s for treatment because no one in my area knows much about it. and i have 4 kids so i cant travel. does anyone have advice on how to stop the tics? i read you out grow them. I never did. I also know I have 0CD. and have had anxiety attacs is this all related?
Hi, you must feel relieved to have finally found out what you have is a syndrome, this will enable you to give your child the support that you never had. It must have been awfully difficult for you to have been called such horrible names, people can be cruel.

There is a lot more awareness towards touretts these days, l suggest you join a support group, try visiting this site
