i have bee addicted- psychologically and physically to lsix for at least ten years, I bught it in India, very high dose, I am on my last day of ay lasix. I titrated down myself as no MD undeestood. I am up about ten pounds. However, water gain is slowing down. I stay low-sodium, I juice, & I stay away from my normal clothes.

lasix came close to killing me. Renal level 3 failure. wih juicing, as in beets, carrots, celery, spinach, cucumbers,, lots of ginger, i reversed my bloodwork in 3 weeks.

I wish I knew how long this water gain wil last, or if it will get worse. I DO know that ANY exta sodium- cheese, bought soup- raises my weight by up to 4 lbs in one night & that takes 3-4 days to go back down.

This sucks, bt the options are stay on lasix and end up on dialysis, or get over it.

i have been on lasix for about four months to get rid of oedema caused by excess sodium.  By excess I mean more than 1000mg in a day.

like you I bloat immediately.  i can put on 2kg in a day.  and in the week after stopping lasix in mid-november I increased by 8kg.  all with highly restricted sodium.

i have hyperaldosteronism. which leads to a potassium leak.  as i am not able to retain potassium there is no balance to sodium absorption so i just swell up.

the answer is to get diagnosed.  i am taking sprionolactone.  this controls the blood pressure well but the dosage is not high enough to reduce the cell permeability (to plug the potassium leak).  however a higher dosage has nasty side effects for men.  alternatives in some countries include eplerenone with fewer side effects.

if you have ideopathic oedema then furosemide is a terrible choice for the reasons you outlined.  talk to your doctor about analysisng your potassium levels.  and potentially considering an mcb or a potassium sparing diuretic like amiloride.

i went back on furosemide in mid december and found that i had become resistant.  i had to take 120mg twice a day to break the resistance and start diuresis again.  not safe nor sage.

i have now stopped again now that the doc has accepted he needs to look at potassium more closely.  as a result i am up 5 kgs in three days....  calorie controlled and sodium controlled diet.  just retaining every bid of fluid i drink...  not surprising when you think about the sodium depletion that furosemide causes.

it takes 3 weeks to leave your system fully (not the 6-8hours that the diuresis effect supposedly lasts for).  homeostasis will take your body longer.  keep taking the juice, keep drinking sensible amounts of water when you're thirsty.  dont give the body any dietary shocks in the meantime.

My dad has had angioplasty-angiography several years back. Now every few months he has symptoms of water being accumulated in the body and doctor prescribed lasix. Is there a prevention or another cure for this?
