I have ADD. I was diagnosed with it when I was in second grade around 1995. I took ritalin for about 2 years around then, but stopped because it wasn't helping me enough. Then in 8th grade I was prescribed with concerta, which i took for about a year, until I felt again that it wasn't help. I know the truth is that concerta wasn't helping because I wasn't letting it. I'm 21 now and in college online. I'm having trouble focusing and I need to find a way to get some ADD medication. I have no health insurance and I don't have a job. I was wondering if there was anyway to get a medication for cheap and without the need for insurance. I know most of the ADD medications are like a class 3 medication, because my friends father is a doctor and informed me that he would not be able to help me. Any suggestions to help me get medication or find some alternative to help me manage my ADD so that i can get my school work done without worrying about if i can pay attention would be really helpful. Thank you.
I am wondering if the caffeine in coffee and soda may help you concentrate better.
Sometimes the manufaturer of the medicine you need will discount your meds. Just ask your doctor or the pharmacist.
If you are unemployed and doing on line courses, you can probably get medicade. Make an appt. with your Social Service Dept.
FYI, my 21 year old was diagnosed with ADHD and was on Ritaline for quite a long time. She wanted off, so we slowly took her off. She was diagnosed at the age of 6. Today, she works full time and is getting her Associates Degree in Early Childhood. She struggles at times, but because it is on line study, she can move at her own pace. I see her put the book down and shut off the computer, she will the go back to it in about an hour and continue. Her focus and concentration is altered a bit. But with extra focus and extra concentration, you will be able to pull it off, you just need more time. She has a grade average of 3.8 and was on the Deans list twice so far.
If you have someone who can help you study that would be a good idea. She will read something and not get it, i will then read it out loud to her and i see the light come on. Do you have someone who can read along with you?
Maybe you don't need meds, just know that you may have a little problem and take it slow, like she does.

Class 3 medications do not = "coffee and soda" However, I once had a psychiatrist who suggested that a couple double shot espressos would take the edge off of the chaos.
