I had my hair in braids for a year and was on the shot and my hair grows but as soon as I put a perm in my hair my hair started to fall out so it could be chemical you are using becareful
Yes!!! I'm having the same proble . It just falls out from all around. Not just one place in particular. I was on it for yearssssss... Then I got off of it for 2 years, now I've been back on it for like 5 months, & my hair is falling out. It didn't do this before. I'm freaking out. I can't even wear it down cus it gets all over the place. I'm due for my next shot by July 8th.. But I'm getting on the pill instead of getting my shot. Screw this !!! & I'm losing a lot of weight fast.
I'm exactly the same. Been on it for years. Was adament I wasn't going to get it again due to weight gain but the nurse assured me it wasn't down to that. So stupidly last Wednesday I went I got it again. I'm thinking Is it really the depo causing all this hair loss? Like 50 percent in 9 days? I don't know what to do !!
I hate to discourage anyone but I first went on the depo shot about 15 years ago for a year or so and I got alopecia areata (hair loss) then. I still have flare ups off and on since. They're not as severe but they still happen. And that's not the worst. I also got a rare malignant breast tumour and generally terrible health. Bad skin. No one ever warned me of such side effects and google wasn't around back then.
I have the same issue :'( I've gotten the Depo shot only 2 times, when i realized my hair was falling out! I was losing 200-500 hairs a day for months and months!!! I was crying when i had to wash it, because my whole bathtub was filled with hair clumbs :'( I was losing hair all over my head, but in the front, above my forehaid there's a spot where you can see my scalp because the remaining hair is so thin. Also my hair feels very dry and breaks easily. It's now like old womans hair! It's been over 2 years now and i've tried alot of vitamins and "natural" shampoos, to nopoo and ate and drank things to help my hair and went to dokters but it didnt get resolved. The hairloss did get a little less, but i still miss my old healthy full hair! Still i hope one day it will all be back to normal.. So if anyone knows the cure, please share
You best see a dermatologist to get a proper diagnosis. It's definitely a form of alopecia, but you won't get a decent treatment until you know which kind..
I had the same problem.....I lost almost all of my hair! Is yours back? How long did it take to grow back and how bad was your loss?
I'm 23 I've just finished my third shot. Never again! My first one I noticed a small bald patch just under my fringe. It was scary. I thought it mightier been a product I was using in my hair, 9 months later and it's just starting to grow back. Then I noticed my hair clogging up the shower drain every 2-3 days which was kind of scary. My hair got thinner and thinner but no other bald patches. Then the other day I was trying on some clothes in river Island and noticed the back of my head in the mirror. On the back of my head my hair is so fine that when I lift it I can see my scalp through my hair. I've also gained weight through the deposit and have horrible stretch marks on my legs. The effects have had devastating results on my self esteem! Don't do it! It's not worth it!
Hi, I got the depot shot once and I've had ridiculous "rare" side effects. One of them is hair loss in the end between that and a giant cyst on my ovary I cut my hair off. My hair hasn't thickened up and that's been 6 yrs now! #depressed.
I was on the shot before 5 years ago and was dizzy in hair was getting shorter so I stop now I got back on it and my hair in the middle is bald n I get frequent migraine I will not be taking the shot every never again in life!!!!!
Im 21 and had one depo shot in August. I already have very thin hair, and in November I noticed a small crown at the back of my head. Thankfully I did not take the second depo shot for other reasons because I didnt know the hair loss was related. For weeks I tried superfoods and new shampoo to no avail. Finally I found out depo caused hair loss (my doctor never mentioned it - which I'm furious about). It was a huge relief to know the problem but also very depressing to read others' problems and to hear this stays in the system for so long. Some say 6 months, some say its been 2 years with no change. The lack of stability in the results is what causes me the greatest anxiety.
It's now early December and I have to wear hats all the time to cover my balding scalp. I'm graduating in May and right now I have a lot of depression and anxiety thinking I may have to walk with my classmates with a head cover along with my cap and gown. I was already insecure about my thin hair and this has only made it worse.
Please someone give me good news that hair can become healthy again soon!

Hi did your hair growth back.. I never knew the deposit made your hair fall out they should mention that I've noticed when I seen a video bk in summer of my hair at the back oh my God I'm so thin back there I couldn't understand it. I've touched it and I feel practically bald I've not had a shot in about 9 months but my hairs still think bk there. I'm 35 and worried it's gonna stay like that
I stopped the depo shot in Nov 2016 i was only on it for 2 months my hair has thinned a lot and still is my doctor said it could take 6 to 18 months for my hair to go back to normal
Youll get kicked out for having your period?
I've been on the Depo for 4 years consistent now and mine is general all over thinning as well that I started to notice a gain in over the past year and when I got the shot I weighed 260lbs and I'm now topping out at 340lbs no matter what I eat or what exercises I do I can't get that number to drop it just slowly climbs so I've got an appointment in a few days where I'm gonna talk to my doctor about what to expect when quitting the depo
