I'm twenty years old and married, well my husband and I had sex a few days ago and I had to go to ob/gyn the next day. Well during my exam my doctor was preforming my pap smear and as she was checking me out , i started hurting while she was checking my vagina. I have had pap smears before but never felt discomfort after them. I have the feeling like I have to urinate all the time and it hurts while i'm going to the bathroom. Well just last night i started feeling this sharp pain in my right side between my ribs down to my hip bone. I'm not sure what this could be and I don't know if i should call my doctor just yet. Please help!!
I sometimes have no problems with pelvic examinations but I also sometimes wish I had anesthesia. I sometimes I don’t feel like having stuff being inserted into my vagina and it is uncomfortable, especially if I am moody those days. What I am trying to say is that discomfort during these exams is expected and normal. Complications during pap smear is very rare and the only problem that could occur is slightly bleeding after the exam. Now, if the conditions were not sterile and you caught some kind of bacteria, you could ended up with UTI.
Now you flank pain seems so sudden and I wouldn’t link it to the pelvic exam. Flank pain usually does indicate kidney problems. However, other causes include muscle spasms, spinal disk irregularities, shingles, etc
If your pain and discomfort persists for another few days, I would recommend you to address a doctor.
