I don't know whether or not I should get myself checked for Stomach Cancer. I've been told that in my family it is genetic, almost everybody who has died, died of Cancer mainly of the Stomach. So far this year my uncles, aunties, some of thier children and my granma has been diagnosed as positive for Stomach Cancer. My granma's sister died from it at a young age and both her children have been diagnosed with it. One of my uncle's has undergone surgery to remove his stomach and his daughter is going to have to same thing done as she returned positive as well (she's younger than me). So pretty much my chances are high if nearly my entire family has it.

I'm 22 and I don't think i'll handle being diagnosed with having it and having that added to the rest of the problems i'm going through in my life. I'm scared to get tested and i'm worried about my future.

Should I get the test? Please advise :'(

Hey dlemah. I understan you fear and anxiety regarding getting tested for cancer.... noone wants to hear that they have that.however you are at an advantage.... you know you are at a very high risk for developing stomach cancer.... was there a common age range that the cancer appeared in you family? Remember that you can not prevent cancer. If you are gonna get it ur gonna get it but the good news is the earlier it is detected the better chance that you can treat it... I would deffinatly get tested. And then do routine screens for it

Thanks Biomajor for your reply. I am scared and really don't want to be tested positive. My family that have been tested range from early teens to 60s. My family say to wait for mum to get tested before I do incase it didn't pass onto her. But I think I will get tested as soon as possible when I can afford to see my doctor.
If I do have it I here you can get worse if you get your stomach taken out. I wouldn't want that either.

Hey again... I would get tested becauseeven if your mom doesn't get it it doesn't me you won't get it.... it just means itt skipped over her.... I would get checked out and then keep close tabs on it... do you have any symptoms that make you think you may have stomach cancer?

I've been doing a bit of study about Stomach Cancer, like reading what the symptoms are. Some sites do not help when they say 'early stomach cancer doesn't often cause symptoms'.
I always have a slight pain/crapping in my stomach and lower abdomine but it could be caused by my excessive bleeding I have had for about 6yrs but has been worse this year as had non stop bleeding since April.
I don't have difficulty swallowing, I always feel nausea with or without vomitting. I've only been vomitting on certain foods, i've gone off eating oysters and mussels which I loved but now makes me sick. Some meat have been making me feel ill and i've cut back on eating breakfast and lunch as not been feeling hungry and when it comes to tea i've just been eating half as I would feel sick or bloated.
I don't think i've had any weightloss but I haven't checked my weight for a while.
A while back I had blood in stool, but i've been alright and thought it could have just been when I was on iron tablets for my iron deficiancy.
So I haven't taken into consideration whether or not it's related to stomach cancer or something else i'm suffering.
I've been tested for breast, cervical and utery cancer which have come back negative.

Hey again.... what is causing your constant stomach bleeding?

That is what i've been seeing a doctor about and have had no luck. It's actually like a continuous non stop period, i've been bleeding since April this year. It's a mystery at the moment, i've had plenty of tests, swabs, biopsies etc. No luck.
