you dont understand anything about oxy addiction or else you wouldnt have said that 48 hours yah right, dont give advice on things you dont understand yourself, she obviously cares about the baby or else she wouldnt have made this question in the first place :( you make me upset sorry tho in know you were just trying to help, its just a soft area for some,
I really appreciate this post, I am 23 and i have chronic pain from a severe car accident. I have been on strong pain meds for about 4 years. I have wrestled with what to do when i decide to have a baby and this post really helped me. I just wanted to know that there are things i can take that wont hurt my baby or have it go through withdrawal.
FYI- If she had done this, it would kill the baby. If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your comments to yourself (unless you're fine with being the cause of the actual death of the infant). Stopping this medication, even dosing way down, in the first trimester will terminate the pregnancy. There are safe ways of doing it during the second trimester, but only under a careful doctor's supervision.
No need to be rude there regular.
I don't think you are in her shoes...

Hi- I know this post is old but I have only seen today. I’m in the UK- I have had chronic lower left back pain for many years and have been through various different medications, clinics and a pain clinic. I have prolapsed discs as well- the pain every day is so bad but I get up and go to work. I do not consider myself an addict- I am a chronic pain sufferer. I’m 27 and have always worked and never had a drug problem. I was not irresponsible, I fell pregnant whilst on contraception which was weakened when taking antibiotics- I’m pro choice but abortion was not right for me. I’m 10+4 weeks pregnant and before my pregnancy was prescribed 600mg pregabalin , 10mg OxyContin slow release in the morning and 15mg slow release at night. I also have 5mg oxynorm for breakthrough pain twice a day. Luckily before I fell pregnant I halved the pregabalin to 300mg in one sitting. Since I’ve found out I went to my GP and i decided I’d come off the pregabalin first, so I’ve come down 50mg a week and am now at 100mg. 2 weeks to go and I will be off of pregabalin. I also immediately reduced the OxyContin to 10 & 10 instead of 10 & 15. This will then go to 10 and 5, 5 and 5 and so on so forth. Then lastly will be the oxy norm.
I have never been someone to abuse my prescription or try and get more from my doctor- for 4 years I only ever upped 1 of my OxyContin by 5mg - my doctor said it was nearly unheard of as people usually want more and more. I am not pain free on this drug but it is manageable for me to focus and live a normal life- you would never ever know or suspect that I took any medication.
The people on here are so uninformed it is scary- it is much more dangerous to stop cold turkey- no reputable doctor will tell you to do this1 they will adjust your prescription to lower doses so you can reduce safely. Your baby will only be born with withdrawal if you are still in the final 1-2 months. So aim to be off or nearly off by then.
I don’t intend on using any other drugs to get off of these ones. I also do not intend on letting my child be born with withdrawal - I’m such a low does that it would be unlikely but this isn’t the point. It’s not just about the child it’s about our safety and well-being both mentally and physically as well.
NOBODY should give advice or judgement on topics they have no idea about- if uninformed pregnant women were to listen to your babble they could lose their child. Not all people who take strong medications are junkies or addicts or even like taking the drug. They may be in so much pain it’s the difference between coping and not. Think before you speak.
Good luck to anyone going through this, what you are doing to reduce off is admirable. Good luck to you.
