Hi, I got my tonsils out 5th January it’s now the 9th of janauary which would make me be on day 5 (including day of the surgery). I got them out from getting tonsilitis constantly and was told twice to get them out. However I’m regretting the operation more than anything right now. Day1(surgery): stayed in hospital until around 5:30pm then got to go home, I managed some cereal in there and slept a lot when I got home Day2: pain increased and that night I threw up from pain meds and now just take paracetamol. Day3: even worse, not sure if it was from the throwing up night before Day4: I was still in pain but afternoon wasn’t so bad still couldn’t eat properly though Today is day five: it’s still only early afternoon but my pain from last night to around 8 this morning was unbelievable and I had no sleep. Anyone have any advice or an idea as when my scabs should beguin falling off and what happens when they do?

Later on in day five update; I have been able to get cereal down (have been past few days but seems that bit easier today). The ear pain is there when I’m eating though and now I’m going to attempt a boiled egg...

I have a weird feeling in my right tonsils and if anyone knows if this is the scan coming loose or what could they let me know, or just any advice with the scabs at all really.

Another update

Day 6 early morning: well last night was an even worse night of sleep, I felt sick pretty much the full night. This mornings been awful too the pains been so much worse and also in my ears, everyday seems worse than the one before and I just want to be done with this already. I’ve been using difflam mouthwash to give me a bit of a numb mouth which seems to help I’m still feeling pretty sick though and also still regret the full operation to be honest.

Don’t know if this information of day by day is any use to anyone but I know I always look up online stories of other people’s experiences so i will just keep updating until I’ve recovered probably to help others get an idea for recovery or my recovery anyway to help.

It’s still day six but it’s around dinner time: eventually got my pain and sickness under control and managed to eat some really soft homemade chips today and a bit of really soft buttered toast with tea. Im still struggling to swallow of course but just kinda wash it down, the pain always gets worse at night so it’s probably a good plan to eat while I feel alright during the day so I’m at least not hungry in the night.
I also got some tablets to help with the sickness.

Day 7(including day of op): I took the tablets last night to help the night time nausea feeling and they worked! I couldn’t speak for a bit when I first woke up but probably just from a dry mouth. I guess I slept an extra hour last night still not much though and my throats still agony.

Today it’s now early after noon I tried some wetabix but it was really difficult to get down today and I feel like some of my scabs have sort of grew back which is pretty weird, earaches horrible always seems it worst when I swallow or drink. At the moment I’m in pain but it’s undercontrol from some paracetamol (the pain meds from hospital made me sick I’ve not taken them since day 2). What ive notices though is I feel like I can taste blood.... but I can’t see it?

Week since surgery/day8: last night was horrible, I couldn’t get to sleep for ages from the nausea I felt I but it was the only time I’ve not woken in the night for a drink. The uvula at the back of my throats still pretty swollen and the sides of my tounge are all sore like ulcers. I didn’t take pain medication (paracetamol) for a few hours later than my usual but I was still in pain.

For eatting today I managed some wetabix (bit of a struggle pretty thick to get down) , 2 soft biscuits, tea, soft boiled egg and coleslaw (weird I know I saw it and wanted to attempt it).

It’s now getting close to bed time and my pains increased a bit again but hoping to see a bigger improvement soon, the full not eating as I want and sleeping isn’t great.
