I'm 27 years old and recently I have had a serious injury of my testicles in the gym. They were sore and swollen for a week or so, and it hurt very much. The doctors gave me painkillers to be able to control the pain and it helped a bit. Now it has all passed and there is no more swelling but my testicles seem to be more sensitive than they used to be before. Is this testicle sensitivity normal after an injury or is this something I should be worried about?
Testicles are very sensitive organs even if intact. Since they are separated from the rest of the body that increased sensitivity is kind of natural. Testicles originate from the abdominal cavity, at birth and slightly after that they are descended in the scrotum. They are wrapped with very sensitive membranes that originate from the abdomen, their entire tissue is densely populated by nerve endings. This is very important for normal functioning of the testicles. For them to function normally they need to be a little bit colder than the rest of the body, nerve endings serve as temperature sensors so when the temperature is too high, testicles go lower into the scrotum, when its too low testicles are retracted closer to the abdomen. It is normal for any part of your body to become hyper sensitive to pain after a trauma and experiencing a great amount of pain, since testicles are extra sensitive to pain that testicle sensitivity might be considered normal. Still if that continues to cause you too much discomfort you should talk to your doctor about it.
