Indian Council of Medical Research has determined that internationally designed condoms were too big for the typical Indian male.

The study the Council conducted lasted for 2 years and included 1,200 volunteers. The study data showed that half of the men had penises shorter by 3 to 5 cm. This would often lead to falling or slipping off, further leading to a failure rate by 20 %.

Indian population is already large and the number of HIV infections among the highest, unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases is the last thing they need right now.

A specialist in reproductive health at the Indian Council of Medical Research, doctor Chander Puri, said that there already are smaller condoms on the market but many people are not even aware of it, so work needs to be done on raising awareness.

Those who are aware on the possibility of getting a smaller condom would rarely do so at the pharmacy because of the embarrassment.
Doctor Chander Puri stated that there is a need for custom-made condoms that would be available by vending machines dispensing different sizes all around the country.

Some people have stormfully reacted to the need of smaller condoms, saying that the Indian men do not need to measure up internationally since the number of their population shows that they are doing pretty well.
