When I was in my teens I had a strange and painful rash appear all over my upper body. Had it for about a month. Doctors were at a loss to diagnose it, but it suddenly went away on its own in a matter of a day or so. The rash was mostly in patches, not really round like a regular sore, but in blotches roughly the surface volume of various pocket coins across my torso. The various-shaped blotches were painful, oozed a bit of clear liquid, intensely itchy, and rather than really scabbing over, just sort of took on a plastic-like layer. What I remember most though, was the red, leathery patch that came up in my underarm area, and an odd sort of moldy/medicinal odor that came off of it. Not normal underarm odor, alien to my own sense of my own body scent. Over the next few years the rash would flare up under the arms a little from time to time, but I assumed it was a sensitivity to different deodorants, and finally settled on a few brands that coincidentally didnt seem to cause a flare. It is important to note here, that the rash under the arms was a bit different from the rash on my torso, so I still dont know if the two were actually related, even though they first struck at the same time, after a camping trip in fact. (No sex involved, though admittedly I was panicked over the fact that I had sex for the first time just weeks prior, and thought maybe I caught something.)

Skip to maybe about ten years later or so, and the rash appeared under on arm again. I hadn't dealt with it at all since my late teens. Not long after, a rash under my scrotum appeared. I didnt really equate the two, because the armpit rash had gone away again. But the rash under my scrotum, creeped further up the scrotum. Intense itching and all a lot of what is described on the first page here. More often at night it seemed, easily emaciated, etc. I dealt with it for years. Frankly, I thought it was an allergic reaction to my woman's sexual juices, and it was just something I was going to have to deal with. It would flare and recede, but never really go away, no matter what cream I put on it. Then finally it did seem to go away for a period of time after I split with that woman. It began flaring again about a year after I began another long term relationship with a woman. I finally went to an STD clinic, they gave me a prescription creme and some pills, but neither worked and they said there was nothing else they could do for me.

Now the rash was flaring worse than ever before and suddenly a red patch showed up on my face. That one blotch stayed there for at least a year I guess. Some days it would be redder then others. Flaky skin. Leathery to the touch. The crotch-itch persisted, but then after years of suffering, it up and went away entirely. But the blotch on my face remained, and then more blotches began to appear on my face. After a year or so now, I have a very large patch on either side of my head, nearly symmetrical blotches high on each cheek about the side of a thumb print, a bltch on my chin, two small blotches under my moutaches, one blotch under one eyebrow, and a few other smaller scattered blotches.

And now, in just the past few weeks, much to my dismay, it has returned from my scrotum to my anus. Not as bad as before, but tingling an itchy enough to be annoying, and persistent.

I forgot to add, that I have tried cortisone, antifungals, hydro-peroxide, vagisil, caladryl, spent a summer in a heavy chlorinated pool, had blood work done in the ER, have been seen by doctors several times, and still have no cure. It also does not appear to be contagious.

Reading back through the thread a few people mentioned brown spots. I totally forgot about that. I wound up with the same thing, right after I lost my virginity. But it was not from dried blood, because the itch had not appeared yet. And no, it wasn't from not keeping myself clean either. I hate to think that we are all allergic to women, lol. I've been abstinent now for about five moths though, since I split with my girlfriend.

I am going to share my thoughts on this topic in the hope that they will be be helpful to someone here. I have been struggling with exactly the same problem for over two years now... red scrotum (both sides) and very itchy anus. I, like others here, have also noticed that it goes away and then recurs after about 3 to 5 days. It is very annoying and distracting. For me this all started with the use of an anti-fungal cream and in my experience the use of anti-fungal creams and anti-bacterial creams actually make the problem worse. I am convinced that what we are dealing with here is a chronic form of yeast infection.

What I have found has helped is the following: firstly, and most importantly, I made a conscious effort to NOT scratch... very difficult, I know, but scratching really does prolong the symptoms. Secondly, eating yoghurt daily, taking multivitamins that contain Probiotics daily (I use an immune booster and multivitamin called Viral Guard), cutting out white bread (I eat rye bread instead) and drinking lots of water. And then lastly, I use... uh, don't laugh... regular baby nappy rash cream which contains zinc oxide. I can't stress enough the DAILY part of the yoghurt and probiotic intake; because from my experience, if I forget to take them, the itching returns very quickly.

Anyway. These are my tricks that I use to keep this problem under control. They have not cured the problem completely, as it does still recur, but not as frequently as in the past and it has also made a big difference in that the itching is now far less.

I hope this helps someone.

I'm 13 years of age, and have exactly the same symptoms as almost everyone else here. I have never had sexual intercourse, and I'm really worried, because it is itching every day, in school, out of school, and at night. I really don't want to tell anyone about it or go to the doctors (I think out of embarrassment). But could this be serious? Should I go to the doctors and have it checked out?

Thanks in advance.

Alright I know this post is really old but I am deciding to add to it to maybe help others who find their way to it. I am 20 years of age and have had this/similar problem for at least 4 years, when it had first showed up I had thought it to be jock itch as time progressed and the jock itch medicines were not working I began to think it psoriasis and began meddling in the medicines for that. As time further progressed I began to think maybe it was an STD (altho when it first showed up i had not before had intercourse i thought maybe i picked it up from somewhere at one time i did spend sometime living in a home that housed many people), I had got myself checked and came up clean. Yeast infection was my next guess finding medicines for that to be just the same. Nothing seemed to cure it, it only spread more and more slowly seemed to effect me more during winters and nights. It was a nightmare I had tried anything and everything even ointments that had nothing to do with any of the things i thought it to be. The only thing I could seem to do was keep it from itching with anything with an anti-itch compound in it. I should have done this long ago but after reading the posts here and seeing the on one of the posts something about a medicine called flagyl or something of that nature it was something I had not tried, gave me hope again after some 4 years of just putting up with it, further researching it I found that you needed a prescription to get it which is what I had been avoiding the entire time for lack of better reason pretty much because doctors scare the mess out of me. As I know I should not have waited so long to do just that I had lied to the doctor and told her (yes a her a bit hard showing your messed up junk to a chick doctor) she had almost freaked out as much as I was while in the office it had been something she had never seen before due to the clinic being a kind place and wanting to save me money in these hard times they gave me a prescription and told me a place I could go to get a biopsy for free if the medicine i was given did not work. She had specified the duration I should be using the cream to be 6 weeks, I am now midway through week 2 and already the skin has regained much of its original color the dry flaky rashy itchy area of it no longer is holding any of those symptoms and it seems to be working towards what it should be good healthy skin that is free of anything it is only week two and now only slightly noticeable looking at it and the symptoms are no longer present everything seems to be clearing up, I shall post again some time after the duration I am on this medicine is finished to state if it is only suppressed or truly cured but as stands now everything is much more positive than it has been the last 4 years. The medicine is called CLOTRIMAZOLE AND BETAMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE CREAM USP, 1%/0.05% after researching it a bit it is a multi-anti-fungal cream. It seems to be working great and I will continue use till the last day of the six weeks. Only a week and a half and this medicine has me in such a great mood you would not believe how happy I am that it seems to be working, I advise anyone who wanders to this site looking for help hoping for an OTC cure to just man up and go to a doctor it took me 4 years to long to even consider that idea and I have let this mess nearly consume most of my scrotum but now I am doing something and it is working great thus far already looking very close to normal. I hope this helps someone one last thing i know i have spoken quiet a bit.....but for those who do end up using this and getting this cream for most of the first week after putting on the medicine twice a day once early and once late i had problems of sudden what almost felt like bug bite itch but that went way after some 30 minutes and now that does not happen at all plus i have been taking apple cider baths ever so often

to everyone on here, if you or the wife do the washing get them to run an extra rinse cycle, or even attach a hose from the cold water tap to the washer powder tray and when rinsing run extra water through, i got told this after suffering with this all my life, off an Auntie, 1 year ago when i just happened to walk in her kitchen when she was doing the washing and noticed the hose shoved in the washing machine, i asked her about this and my uncle and cousin, where exactly the same as me and couldn't tolerate soap.

if ever my wife forgets to do the extra rinse,i am in agony within 12 hours of wearing my newly washed undies,i am told the anti-biological bit in washing powder has something to do with it, and can attack your skin.

Ok, i'll go to all the forums I read on this. I had the same problem described. Gold Bond Powder and triple Ointment Creams gave minor relief. On a whim, I tried Ketoconazole Shampoo, 2%, that I had here for a rash I developed under my law enforcement body armor. Dampen the area, put it on liberally and lather it up some and let it sit for five minutes. I have immediate relief. The bottle says it should work in one use. Hopefully some of you can get some relief too!

After dealing with many over-the-counter & dermatoligist prescribed creams my general practioner prescribed CLOTRIMAZOLE-BETAMETHASONE CREAM (generic for LORTRISONE CREAM) and it completely healed the terrible itching and redness within 2 weeks. Thank God ! My life is back to normal and I can get a good nights rest. I had to pass this on ! :-D
