Inverted nipples or something else? there were hard, small triangular shaped things in the middle

Ok so basically i'm now a 17 yr old female , and i have the following problem : 

When i was like 12 or 13 years old , i grew these very hard, almost stonehard, like small triangular shaped nipple-y like things on the middle of my breasts right and this was right before my breasts started developing and at the time i had no idea what they were and they made me uncomfortable so i constantly picked them and fumbled and i twisted the right one off and it then i was so scared i twisted and fumbled the other one off right after that but it did hurt a little bit  with them kind if like if i had twisted skin off and now my breasts are more developed but i still have not got anything towards nipples in the middle of my areola are just small holes and i don't know if i have just inverted nipples or if those hard thingys i had when i was 13 were my nipples and i just picked them off and i'm so embarassed i don't dare myself to go to get my boobs checked out .. could it possibly be that i accidently picked of my nipples ?
