I've been on depo for approximately 10 years now and I'm extremely happy with this method. I've never had any problems other than very slight spotting on a few occasions.

I'm on Depo for 3rd time. It was like heaven at first I was spotting slightly but week or so then after my second Depo my period completely gone. Honestly I don't like having period I hate that. So bf and I was happy about it. But I noticed that I eat a lot and just always hungry. And keep eating or looking for something to eat. So because of my job I usually wear casual stuff like leggings or sweat pants etc. And people often mentioned me that I'm getting heavy! And start notice that too. My bf was okay with it he never mentioned or complained anything but know that I'm getting bigger lol. Any when I got my 3rd Depo on April my nurse was changed so she weighted me and told me to tell her how many pound does it show on the scale... Moment I saw the number I almost past out! 205 pound! I gained 50 pound during the last 2 Depo shots. So I felt like slap my self to wake me up and say how could u wait that long to gain 50 pounds and just let it grow! And I asked the nurse in your experience how often your patients complain about gain weight because of the Depo? Her answer was 90% of them complained gain weight. So anyways I'm on diet and lost 20 pounds in a month. That time I wasn't bleeding or spotting so I asked is that okay to not have a period? And she said it's normal. Then month after my 3rd Depo I'm on bleeding for over a month now. And I hate this! I can't wait to finish this Depo shot period! So I can just use pills! I do not recommend Depo shot!

I just had my daughter 3 months ago and got back on depo in April and i havent had it great since ive been very emothional, mood changes, period out of control, no weight gain so far, and very bad cramps! is this normal? What should i do? i'm the only one in my family on this birth control so i dont have ne1 to turn to so im asking u ladies. i cant even talk 2 my husband bout it cause hes still not comfortable with it but he is worried about the way ive been acting and thinks im going thru post partum depression.

Yeah I have been on the depo shot for six years now. In the beginning it was great. No periods, no weight gain and no pregnancy scares. Then the bleeding started after sex n didnt stop for a month. It is heavy and painful worst than when I had periods. Its embaracing and is ruining my sex life. Since then I stopped and switched to the nuvoring because of the excessive bleeding. Untill I began to have the same symptoms with the ring. I have never had a child so I cant have the IUD so it seems like im going to have to go to the pills... I dont know what else to do and it seems like the doctor cant figure it out either they just keep saying everyone reacts differently. Well thats a sucky response and I need something better than this...Anyone have any experience with the pill I'm just worried about forgetting to take one...This so sucks I miss the days when Depo was awesome but I guess all good things must end someday.

DEPO PROVERA will ruin your life .. Thanks to everyone who posted here, bc I'm experiencing some of the same types of problems!! I have been bleeding for FIVE MONTHS straight (btw spotting to very heavy.. but, mostly light spotting)...I cannot take it ... I finally broke down today & started taking birth control pills.. so far, the bleeding hasn't stopped, but I only started this morning. I hope to the good Lord this will make the bleeding stop bc the mental anguish this shot has caused was NOT WORTH IT .. Please stay away from this shot, it's the devil !!

I took a depo provera shot 20/09/2011, my bf nd I didn't want any mistakes happening as we were not ready 4 such a huge responsibility but it was the worst decision I have ever made. After taking the 3 month shot in September, a couple of weeks later I started my periods thinking it would last my usual 5 days, but it actually lasted 2 weeks, stopped for two days and started again for another 2 weeks, I thought since it was the beginning it would soon regulate again but I was wrong, from 2 weeks it went on to a month. After the 3 months were over I decided not to go back for another shot, I was weak from losing blood, my iron levels were low, my knee joints were hurting and I was always tired and could not even sit up for long periods of time, I kept on bleeding non stop, I went to a doctor who prescribed me with iron tablets and just told me that depo is not for everyone. The iron tablets helped raise my iron levels a lot and brought my energy back, then early february 2012 whilst still bleeding started have ALL pregnancy symptoms which I was told its all normal when the depo is coming out ur system. My periods stopped for 2 weeks, oh my word had forgotten the feeling on not wearing a pad or just being free after 5 months of bleeding but that was short lived, my periods came back and were on their 2 weeks on, 2 days off rampage, I was devastated nd stressed. I went to see another doctor 2 weeks back and prescribed ovral tablets which I had to take 4 tablets a day and was told my periods immediately, indeed my periods stopped and I was overly happy. For the week I was taking the ovral there was no blood in sight, no spotting, omg no cramps at all. I finished my pills 4 days back and yesterday 18/4/2012 I noticed spotting and today I'm bleeding like an open tap :'( I can't believe my hope of this ending has gone done the drain. I'm devastated, why all the bleeding, where is the blood coming from? am I over ovulating? I'm lost and do not advise depo provera to any one, I took one shot and it has ruined my life :'(.

I have been on the depo shot for a little over a year.  Not really any side effects, I get my period about every 3 months, right around the time my next shot is due.  I haven't really had any problems with the shot.  Until now, I started my period over 2 weeks ago and it's still going.  It would stop for a little bit and then it's like it would start over again, along with the cramps I get every time I start my period.  This has NEVER happened to me before, I've NEVER had a period last this long.  I don't know if it's the shot, I've been on it for over a year and it hasn't happened before.

I was prescribed depo to reduce the size of one of my fibroids.  I am an older woman not of child baring age and found it interesting that a form of birth control had been recommended for someone of my body type and age.  Initially my periods disappeared, but into the course of the second shot I noticed more intermittent bleeding.  Since my third and final vaccination I have had continued bleeding regularly (medium/heavy).  My advice if your physician has recommend this form of birth control do your research and really consider the potential side effects.  This has interfered with my sex life and based on all that I have read my take considerable time to leave my system.  I'm not experiencing the cramping, but my sex drive is not where it should be.  Take control of your body and research.
