I finally decide to try the depo shot this year after I had my baby. I have spottings on and off and they go longer than my regular period. My next shot is scheduled for October but I will not get it. It's very annoying that I have to keep buying liners, pads, & tampons on the regular. Some days it may be heavy and other days it's light. Right now I don't have a sex life lol because it does not want to go off! I wish I did my research online before I decided to try it. I just knew of some family members and friends that have had it and it was good for them. No period at all! That's what I wanted but got the exact opposite. I know everyone respond differently to any form of birth control but geez... I had a similar experience with the mirena. I was bleeding so heavy for a while and I just decided to get it removed. Does anyone know when does the shot wears off after you decided not to take it anymore? I think I'm better off without birth control because at least I'll know the length of my damn period lol.
I started taking this shot over a year ago and I had still yet to get any hint of a period...until this morning. And now I'm too worried to go to school.
wow this information was very useful. I also started the Dep shot in October 2012 thinking it would be easier, since Im not one to remember to take pills, but my mentrual cycle has lasted longer than my normal 4 days. was begging to worry. Glad to know Im not the only one who''s experienced this, but does anyone know if after the first month of using the Depo shot if Your periods get better, or lighter flow??, and does the acne problem get better after the first Depo shot???
The acne problem went away for me after about 6 weeks. The bleeding, although much lighter than my normal period, has not stopped after my second shot. I will continue to use it because I am a nurse and during a 12 hour shift I can't have a period that requires a new pad and tampon every hour to hour and a half but I'm not crazy about the constant spotting. I did get one period after about 12 weeks but it was light enough to go a few hours without worrying about leaking though my white pants. I don't think depo is perfect but depending on your needs it may be a great choice. If you have high blood pressure you might want to consider not using it because it did raise my blood pressure which is one of the possible side effects. That might be only thing that gets me to stop using it.
i got the depo shot in june 2012 and i have stayed on my period ever since. at first it was just lightly and in september when i was due to get another one i didnt go back. now i am having very heavy bleeding nonstop. i have not stoped bleeding since june. i would never recomend the shot to anyone.
I have took the depo for 5 months coming on the 16th of this month. I have been bleeding for almost 2 full months and im worried if you find any help please share it with me. Thank you.
I started depo exactly a year ago, i havent stopped bleeding since. i asked my doctor about it and was told its normal to bleed on depo and the bleeding will eventually stop. so, i stupidly kept getting the shot thinking this bleeding issue would go away. well, it hasnt!! it just got worse. im now bleeding VERY heavily, have horrible cramps, and get headaches almost everyday. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE! All it has done for me is cause a sh*t load of irritation, money loss due to buying tampons so frequently, ruined sheets/underwear, oh and lets not forget the horrible cramps, headaches, and lack of a sex life... F*ck depo!
i got my depo shot in december 2012 i had a stillbirth baby boy love him too death but i have been bleeding for 3 months now the doctor put me on iron and a multivitiam ive been on it for 2 days now and i still havent seen any chances i dont know what to do cause its making me weak but i will let u all know if these pills work or not
I'm 21 years old. african american. I suffer from Depression, Anxiety, the works. I add that because like someone else has mentioned I feel like it may be different for women of different ethnicity and ages and medical histories. I started Depo after receiving an STI during a sexual assault in the summer. My bf caught this STI. So we both went to go get treatment. During treatment they told me that the STI could make me infertile or cause fertilization problems if I became pregnant. So I was very careful to be sure that if we slipped into desires We used a condom and I even.... Got the Depo shot. I got my first depo shot in October 2011. I had a period for awhole month and a half. I decided to get an axam and make sure everything was still clean as it was I also decided to get off the Depo and not do it again. after a Month and a half of bleeding for someone who received regular periods of 8 days long since they were 11 it was more than enough to say no. She was all nice and talking about how there wasn't really any real risks and all. urging me to do it. and I said okay. Now It is feb 18 2012 and I still have not had a period. I suffer from Depression and anxiety so when things got worse I suspected its time to get get another doctor. I am constantly balling my eyes out when my bf goes to work because I keep feeling like I am infertile . I've been through alot and I can't take losing things i havent even had the chance to receive yet. So tomorrow I am calling my doctor like he says I should do, only problem is it seems like in raleigh they take a month just to schedule an appointment. all I know is I am so thankful that I read this because it cleared up so much for me. all the mood swings and the lack of sex drive, the headaches... OMG the headaches and pains. but its been MONThs MONTHS since my last shot and STILL no period. I figured itd be out of my system by now but after reading this I guess.... DEPO is not gods gift to MOST women as some would love to tell you. My worst fear at one time was having a child that would grow up and have a mother who was too unhappy to love it. But now that I've found someone i really love ... all I can wish is that I can show them just how happy the world can be. and show them just how special they really are. Now I'm just praying I can even have children. It just feels too abnormal to not have a period. I use to hate it. now I just wanna see it. to show me that I have atleast one thing that hasn't been taken from me. Thanks to everyone here. Its always reassuring to see your not alone in something thats troubling you. it gives me strength to make this appointment tomorrow.
I got the depo because I am not one to take pills daily. So I thought it would be ideal. For a while, I started to not show any signs of bleeding until my second shot and two months later, I started to bleed and still am. I started to panic because I just thought it would go away after a week because it would last like a normal period. Not! It has been over a week and it is still there.
I also take the depo shot. I have been on it before and should have known not to do it again. I have been on it for 11 months now and this time it was awful. I have not stop bleeding. It will come on and go off over and over again. I have had sugnificant weight gain, not to mention the cramps I am having in my legs. I feel bloated in my stomach area, also experiencing pain im the lower part of my stomach. I have mood swings. I talked to my doctor and decided to get my tubes tied. I don't recommend the depo shot to anyone!!
