Hi everyone,

I first started Depro 13 years ago after my sone was born. It was wonderful, I had no periods and no other contradictions. However after being on Depro for almost 10 years straight I started to bleed very heavy and did not stop. After a few weeks of this I went to the Dr, who informed me thatthe build up of lining over the last 10 years has to eventually go somewhere, which it did. OUT! I was also told I should not of been on it for such a long time without a break!

I cant remember how long the bleeding lasted, however it was along time. I gave my body a break and after 18 months I decided to go back on Depro as I was not use to PMS and I was not dealing vwey well with moods and heavy periods.

I had my first Depro shot at the begining of my period, thinkinh yey no more PMS this will be great again. After three months of heavy bleeding and taking tranexamic acid 2 tablets 3 times a day, just to stop the bleeding from being so heavy, I had my 2nd jab on Depro and still this bleeding continued. Totally different reaction to the first 10 years I was on Depro.

I then dicided that I would not have the third jab becuase after 6 months of bleeding I was over it. It really is bith contal as YOU CANT HAVE SEX COS OF THE BLEEDING!

Anyway another 12 moths went by of PMS where it got so bad I went to mu Dr last month and told him I canrt do PMS anymore, he told me to go the Depro again, I told him what had happened with the continual bledding, which he responded with thats impossible as Depro can not have any effect on bleeding, so it was not the Depro!

So taking my trusted Drs advice I had my first jab a month ago on the first day of my period as suggested by hi. Guess What? I HAVE NOT STOPPED BLEDDING AGAIN!

Soooooooooooooo, today I am seeing another Dr and telling him it is a known side effect of Depro and he better fix the bleeding! I want to stay on the Depro and hopefully there is something else I can take with it, to stop the bleeding until the Depro stops my periods again.

For all you girls who have heavy bleeding, ask you Dr for Tranexamic Acid, it does make your periods lighter, its just a pain taking the tablets so often and they are not small.

Hey anyway, I know how this sucks, I will let you know what my new Dr says when I get back today from my appointment.

i have been on the depo shot for over a year. worst thing ever. i loved not having my period, but after sex i would bleed, plus my mom thought i was havin the same symptoms my aunt had when she found out she had cancer which she passed away from a month after finding out she had it. i am due for another shot in a month but i am not getting it. i do not recomend this for anyone.

I have been on the Depo for over 3 years and if you control your food intake and not be greedy you should all be fine, I now though am having problems with the fact it may be the cause of my cervix not opening and i need biopsies done on my cervix.

So all in all i am very pleased with the Depo and sorry you all seem to be having problems, I had the thing fitted in my arm for protection and bled everyday on that nbut i guess we r all just very different

I was on the Depo Shot and it definitely messed me up and made me feel terrible. When I just got my shot like in January It was the last shot for the first year and it messed up my cycle so much that my period lasted for a month. It wasn't really a period, just like dry blood and then a week later real blood and then dry blood. I eventually went to the doctor and they switch my medication to the pill with 4 iron pills with it. During that time at the doctor I had just dry blood but then the next day the period came back... I was frustrated. I wish I would of knew that this would of actually happen to me. It got to the point that everybody thought I was pregnant, but I wasn't. Its the shot and I wouldn't recommend it at all. Take the pill.

If you start bleeding a lot and it is heavy get off of the shot and go on the pill. It helped me.

the depo shot has ruined my life. I had one shot april 9th 2011 and have had severe cramping, mood swings, decreased sex drive on top of non stop heavy bleeding for 11 weeks now. I had never ever had anything abnormal before the shot. The doctor had to put me on hormone treatments and it has not worked and ive been on it for three weeks now. I have to go see a another specialist soon and my doctors telling me i might have to get a hysterectomy because they aren't finding anything else wrong. NEVER GET THIS SHOT IT SHOULD BE BANNED.

I have been on the shot of about two years with a small liason.
your body reacts differently than someone elses. i had it after one dnc and bled for 3 months after and then it finally evened out.
i went off of it for a little while and then decided to go back on it again. no bleeding. it all depends on your system and what kind of shape your body is in. everyone is different. i do rocmmend it to anyone who wants to try.

The DEPO PROVERA for me was like this , I had one injection in nov2010, at first it seemed all good no bleeding at all for the first month then on new years jan2011 i started bleedind pretty lightly (rarely heavily) but it just didnt stop (i had a few clean days with no blood where i could give my nether regions a break from wearing pads and tampons) (and i also discovered that wearing these things for prolonged periods of time are not pleasant at all, the tampons made my insides tender and a bit sore and the pads were weakening my skin down there making it irratable and tender also like skin breakdown it just wasnt normal). it is now the begining of April 2011 and i have only just stopped bleeding completely. (i had a tiny dash today though) not happy about this at all i even got put on medication to Stop the bleeding in FEB but it didnt stop it. I will NEVER have this shot again i will try something else.

I have been on depo since 1996.  yes that is correct for over 15 years!!! It is a little hard to get used to with the bleeding but it does stop after your 3rd or 4th shot.  That may be a year but it stops.  I have loved depo, obviously.  I was probably on it for 3 years and spotted for 2 weeks, and then did not get my period for 12 more years until i was put on pretnazone.  It scared the c**p out of me because i had not bleed for 12 years.  It took about 2 weeks to stop spotting and now almost a year later i have been spotting for 3 weeks.  I am going to have it checked out.  i just want to say that any birth control has side effects.  i was on the pill and when i got to the green pills i would not get my period.  the doctors said well we will give you something to start your period or you can try depo.  As a woman you never know what your body is going to enlighten you with your monthly joy so depo for me was a blessing.  These people who dont go back for the second shot are looking for a quick fix and this is one that takes time.  i understand side effects suck and hurt, but so does a period.  i take calcium for boneloss, i dont have it at all but as a preventative i take it.  i get checked for breast cancer and luckily no problems there.  It has been wonderful for me and i enjoy the no period, and no pain, no mood swings, just sometimes sore boobs when my shot is due, which you'd get that anyway.  You really need to stick with it if are interested not just for one month.  About a year ago when i was on the pretnazone and needed pads i was standing in that isle for 45 minutes with all the choices i had and i didnt know what i needed it had been that long since i needed anything.  I again want to say you have to stay with it if you are interested, it takes a while to get right but i believe it is worth it.  i have not gotten pregnant on it and i feel safe using it.  I have a child that will be 22 so i am no longer interested in having children, and i am 39, so i started it when i was 24.  I have gone thru so many people at the doctors office that i show them things once in a while i have been on it so long.  i am pro depo and know friends that were on it wanted kids and within 4 months of being off they were pregnant with no help necessary.  i hope this helps.

I had gotten on the Peprovera shot, and I had been on it for 9months, so there for I received  3 injections. It worked fine, but when it came time for me to get my 4th injection, which was December 6th, I never went. Then it took me until April, 4months later, to finally show any signs of bleeding and spotting..For those 4months I was worried I had been pregnant, but it turned out to just be hormones. Now I have a period every 2weeks, instead of 4, and its not heavy, its the same as before, and it still lasts for 7days. It takes 10months for the effects of the Deprovera to wear off, and to be completely out of your system.
