I have a important question that I can't seem to find a person that can give me the right diagnose. I am a 36 yrs old woman. In 2003 I was diagnose with Pulomary Embolism. Of Sept 2004, I thought I was bitten by a spider on the back of my left leg, thigh area. I went to the ER and they just couldn't diagnose it.
Gave me antibiotics, and I went home, The spider bite looks like 4 close together blisters and formed a blood trail trailing to my knee. I at the time was taking warfin.
In about 5days the mark went away. 6months later I receive the same 4 blister and a small blood trail towards my knee. I went to the dr. and He said that that looks like Impetigo. Ok I recieved medicince again and went home. after 5 days it went away. I was tested and I was told by my
Pulomary Doctor things are looking good, my blood seem fine and I stop taken warfin and I notice after 6months I recieved the blister again.
I went to a dermatology and he told me it was Herpes Simplex 1.
I don't know how I recieved this and what to believe.
My question is. I am not sure if you could help me. but My question is
How did I get it and can you tell me where did it come from? I have done research and I just don't understand how it got on my leg. I don't try on other peoples clothes I don't wear in store pants, I don't use the public bathrooms. I just don't understand no one in my household has it. my children don't have it. its bugging me. please help me to understand.
thank you
Sincerely,
Autumn.

To be honest I have never heard that someone had a herpes outbreak on their legs. I mean, I am no expert but Herpes Simplex 1 usually hits the face. You could have kissed someone and received the virus, but as far as I know, the outbreak usually happens at the place of transmission.
Most commonly, type 1 is transmitted among friends and family through kissing and other non-sexual close contact.
This is how the herpes virus works: You can’t get rid of it. When there are no outbreak, that means that the virus is “sleeping” waiting to be stimulated to cause another outbreak. When the virus is inactive, it goes to the nerves at the end of the spine and stays there for a while. It can be active a couple of times a year. No one can tell when another outbreak will happen.
One thing is important…..don’t touch the sores, as you can get the virus on your hands and transmit it to other parts of the body.
The out breaks you experience do look like herpes but I would suggest you saw another dermatologist just to confirm the herpes diagnose.

I wouldn't think that it is herpes. Herpes usually will only out break in "soft skin" areas. For example, the face, (eyes, nose, mouth, ears) or genitles. You won't catch herpes or any other STD from using public restrooms. Herpes is pass by direct contact. If you got it then that part of your body came into direct contact with the virus while it was active on another person.
Impetigo would be a better guess. It is caused by the strep and stac bacteria, which we all have on our skin natually. If you get a cut or scratch the surface of your skin the bacteria can get in and cause the blisters. Biols and impetigo can especially happen near the rear area where we carry all kinds of bacteria. Use an antibacterial soap and make sure you wash well. Washing your sheets weekly will help as well, especially if you sleep naked.
The next time it occurs go to the doctor and demand that they test to see what it is. They can swab it and grow a culture to determine what type of bacteria it may be. They can do blood work to see if you have the antibodies for herpes. There is no reason they can't provide you with an answer.

I WENT TO A RESORT IN PA. A COUPLE DAYS LATER AT HOME I NOTICE A FUNNY LOOKING CIRCLE ON MY KNEE THAT LOOKED LIKE LITTLE PIMPLES. I THOUGH I MAY HAVE SCRATCHED MY SELF. COUPLE DAYS LATER IT WAS BIGGER AND RED AND FULL OF PUSS. I WNE TO DOCTOR HE SAID IT WAS CELLULITIS. HE GAVE ME MEDS AND IN COUPLE DAYS IT WENT AWAY. FOLLOWING MONTH IT WAS BACK. THEY ADMITTED ME CUZ CELLULITIS CAN TRAVEL TO YOUR HEART. ANYWAYS THEY DID A BIOPSY AND SAID IT WAS HERPES SIMPLEX. WHAT IN THE NAME?????????? I WAS IN SHOCK. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I KNOW IT WAS NOT SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED CUZ IT'S ON MY KNEE. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE? THEY GIVE VALTREX AND IT DOES GO AWAY BUT WHY DOES MY KNEE HURT SO MUCH NOW?

I have had the same sort of problem. When I was like 7-8 years old I got "impetigo" on my fore head. Best description: small outbreak of a poison ivy type thing that would give me a head ache in the begining. depending how I clean I kept it would determine how long it lasted. In the end the puss crusts over and starts to go away. Norm 1-3 weeks. It was dormant for a about 7 years then started to come back every 6 months.
I was given Bactroban (antibiotic ointment to treat, which never did anything.) Im 27 now and have learned almost nothing about this. I just get it, put on Baby Rash cream, try to keep it dry and clean. I need to get to the bottom of this as well..it just gets annoying. I was just searching for tea tree oil to better it.
Long story short docs dont seem to be able to figure it out. Best of luck I hope thats some help.

I don't know much about herpes, but I do know a lot about Impetigo. I got it about 3 years ago, under my nose and no one could diagnose it. At first I thought it wasn't too serious, just a cold sore from blowing my nose too much, then it spread to my eye, my tongue, and my throat. By that time I was starting to feel tired all of the time but since it would come and go I just figured I wasn't getting enough sleep. I finally went to another doctor and he told me it was a pretty hefty case of Impetigo. He gave me a large dose of anti-biotics and an ointment and it finally went away.
Impetigo is a staph infection, which can be serious, and it CAN come back. Impetigo is something that usually appears in children, so most GP's will not recognize it for what it is. Some doctors will tell you that Impetigo doesn't come back repeatedly, but anyone who's had experience with it knows that it can. My current doctor told me that it will just keep coming back (especially when I'm stressed) but less frequently as I get older (I'm 21 now). I've also heard people tell me that they get it when the seasons change, but I've never experienced that.
Hope this was helpful!

I have been getting impetigo since I was 19 months old. Started on my cheek near my mouth from swimming in a pool. There on out I have gotten it every year since and I am now 27. I left my ex husband last aug and due to the stress got shingles which is pretty much like it but worse. A few months later after a stay in a hotel I got impetigo again this time on my neck. Not even three months later I have it again this time in its normal spot. I wish it would completely stop coming back. It's annoying and I do nothing different that would make it keep returning!
