I am a student in the healthcare field. I have had a very bad back with herniated discs and stenosis. I was prescribed pain medication (vicodin) for last yr and 1/2. I just had my back surgery and believe the back pain is gone. Now I need to get off the pain medication. I have become addicted to it, and have tried to not take it but could not stand the pain from my back. Now the pain is gone, I don't want to go through the with drawls. It has been suggested to start a therapy of Suboxone to get off the pain meds and to help with the cravings and not to relapse with the Vicodin. I have been told it is ok to be on this drug and work as a nurse. That it does not impair your decisions and can help you to not relapse on the Vicodin. Is it legal to be on this medication as prescribed and work in a hospital?
Hi Lynne,

It should not be an issue as long as you use it exactly AS PRESCRIBED.

Ask your human resources director if there are any reasons as to why you couldn't use this drug and work.

It is always better to be up front about something like this then to not tell anyone and have them question you later.

Good luck.
