my 17yo daughter has exceelent taste in clothing and hairstyle. I am constantly amazed by her ability to find offbeat fashions and combine them in a funky way with other clothes. she makes a lot of her own jewelry and applies the makeup very tastefully. I am almost never disappointed in the appropriateness of the outfit for the occasion. the one time I thought the dress was too revealing (strapless) she was headed to a formal dance where her dress would be one of the conservative ones.
Yes it's possible to like/agree on a daughters clothing choices.

My wife's idea of stylish is non existent.
Fortunately, my daughter picked up a few genes from her dad and has an excellent taste for clothes and accessories. I do have a problem with her size choices...

I was nervous about telling my mother that I was getting a tattoo, but she said. "Yeah, I've been thinking about that, myself."
My mom didn't understand my style at all when I was a teenager. She used to cry when I would always wear all black, dye my hair and wear my leather motercycle jkt. She has no idea that I have tatoos. Working in the fashion business for some years (my past life) I have refined my style and she is always full of complements. Both of my sisters now look to me for style advice as well.
I'm glad I have boys. The oldest one wore the baggy pants but at least he wore a belt and they didn't fall off. I told him he looked like an ass, he laughed and agreed but said he was just fitting in. The youngest one marches to his own drummer. Jeans and tshirts and the jeans fit and don't look like they are falling off. If somebody were to tell him he looked like a dork he'd tell 'em to f off.
My mom's favorite question....
" Are you going out like that? "
My favorite response...
" If people don't like what I look like, they don't have to look at me "
I was such a tomboy back then....hey wait...I still am lol

At a garage I rented for my dragster in the late 60s there was a high school girl who lived on the street behind us. She was well known as she worked at her parents convenience store. Her father was very strict about what she wore so she usually wore a long sleeved shirt and jeans. In the summer she would stop by to see us as the big doors were always open. When she was going out to meet her friends she asked if she could change her clothes and leave them in our shop until she came back. Under the shirt and jeans she was wearing a halter top and shorts that her father would never have let her out of the house wearing. She was beautiful in those clothes and I sure knew why she wanted to be wearing them instead of what her father approved of.
