I am on lisinop and eat a lot of bananas. I have been told that it is not good to have this kind of diet. Is that the truth?
(Lisinopril), a synthetic peptide derivative, is an oral long-acting angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. In some individuals it causes retention of potassium. If one takes potassium supplements or consumes foods high in potassium, it sometimes results in elevated plasma levels of potassium which can cause problems. Bananas are high in potassium. If an inordinate number of bananas are consumed in a short period of time and on a regular basis, it is possible that the serum potassium level could elevate to unsafe levels.
Don't over do the banana intake thing. A few bananas a day should not be a cause for concern. Remember, moderation in all things is a good thing.
