Both people just need to trust each other and if you don't believe him and can't trust him maybe you shouldn't be considering sex with him.

I'm wondering why this is an issue for you. Do you not trust him? Do you have some reason to think he would lie to you? What difference does it make if he's NOT a virgin?
There is no way to confirm that a guy's a virgin, just as nowadays, there's no 100% way to confirm that a gal is either.
However, if he says in the heat of passion that he likes it more if you do X or you two position XY... then, that's a pretty good indication that he's done it before. But beware, he may just be telling you what gets him excited or what he'd like to try, not what he's done before.
