Had a case of Acute Bronchitus, then a horrible pain in my side which was later found out to be caused from an enlarged spleen with free floating fluid in it. Doctor prescribed some general anti-biotics (Metronidazole 500 mg tablets) to help fight the inflammation in my spleen. And as of right now they appear to be slowly working as the pain in my side has lessened greatly. I have only been on the treatment for about 2 days now.

I have this constant spasm on my left side just below my rib cage. Have had four bronchial infections which required antibiotics. Cannot sleep on my left side or back bacause of these constant spasms. Lucky to sleep four hours unless I use a sleep aid.My PA said that the spasms are caused by my pacemaker, but I had them before it was installed. It is ruining my life. It is better when I stand and move around. I work out at the gym five days a week for a hour each day and it has not helped.

I am having the exact same issues as you guys. It all started after antibiotics made me severely constipated. That would be an obvious culprit, but I have been going to the bathroom well for awhile. Yet, still this dull ache right below my left rib cage persist and the worry is about ready to make me go crazy.

My symptoms really are identical to what many of previous posters have said, and at least one of you are (were) simply constipated. But for me, its worse when I lay down, and everything I have tried simply irritates it i.e. massage, heat, cold, exercise, and walking even too.  I am only 24 and doctor doesn't seem to think it is much of anything but I am still worried sick.  I wouldn't call it pain but this tight/heavy feeling is just about constant so its hard not to think about it.  I have an abdominal ultrasound coming up in 3 days which I wish was sooner yet im terrified they'll find something wrong. After researching online it seems many people have dealt or are dealing with this, but I haven't been able to find any information or answers really at all.  So when I finally find out what is going on and if it is serious or not, I will post it here.  I have no blood in stool, stools perfect, no pain, no nausea, just a little extra gas it seems, somewhat more tired than usual(possibly stress/anxiety related), and of course that dull ache, tightness, heaviness just under my left rib cage. I know its not mono, and that im not sick. Again, if these are your symptoms too I will post any info I find out which is soon here, or if you know anything about this please help me.  Mike/24yo

Mike/24yo I had the ultrasound done and the results came back as everything pefect. I had a series as blood test as well and considering a lot of my family works in the medical industry and at the hospitals around the area, I received a battery of test.  All of these came back perfectly normal. It was concluded that my embarassing bout with constipation and the straining to go that resulted stressed/inflammed muslces in my abdomen.  These muscles being core stabilizing muscles that are always active makes it very difficult to heal and relax fully.  I have read many many post in forums and the like and have found many people have/are suffering from the same type of pain or discomfort that I am experiencing.  If you have had test done and everything is in the norm it is most likely that you have the same or simular issue as to what I have going on. The sensation of tightness and heaviness in my side below my rib cage has been very intense, constipation alone can cause this, or straining because of it.  Luckily it turned out its nothing serious and I just need to take it easy for awhile untill it finally clears up. I hope this helps anybody that has these same symptoms in their side, symptoms being profound tightness, heaviness, and the feeling something is there that shouldn't be, its important to note I had no sharp extreme pain, if there was pain on top of the tightness etc. it was very dull and wasn't constant. But this tightness and so on if you have it could be percieved as a dull pain because of its intensity.  My abdomin was even slightly distended.  Try all you can to let these muscles relax and you might need to use laxatives for a short time if you think you need to and are not going well enough.  I suggest magnesium citrate 300ml, twice if it is really bad. After this if you still aren't 100% back to normal take some milk of magnesia a few more times. Don't take more than 1 laxative dose per day.  If in the beginning of using a laxative you still seem like you are having a hard time going use a suppository once a day for a few days, about an hour after the laxative feels as if it should really be working. Normal constipation caught early is usually cured by one bottle of magnesium citrate 300ml.  Sorry for the poor grammar this isn't something I want to spend much time talking/thinking about.

I had an uncomfortable feeling in the area of my spleen about a month back, the same as explained in alot of postings, felt like movement under the rib cage with minor pain. (left side) Shortly after a lump appeared on the lower inside edge of my ribcage, round, not moveable and hard like part of my rib. it constantly gets bigger and smaller from an inch to an inch and a half in diameter and sticks out from a half inch to sometimes an inch. Couldnt be rib fracture or break with wrong healing because i only felt minor dull pain in the area along with sharp pain when heavily inhaling and exhaling and never had rib trauma. Today (about a month later) i have little brown sticky mucus chunks when i clear my throat that seems to be related to eating, after i eat, anything exept fruits veggies and eggs cause me to be extreamly exhausted and unable to work hard when i realy want to for about an hr, then i feel fine and can work fast again. I also have two new round lumps, one on my neck on the right side next to my tonsil. on the other side i can feel my lymph nodes, small and bean shaped. the other lump is on my lower left back an inch above my tailbone and an inch to the left of my rib, this ones sore all the time. On the other side another hard lymph node. I can feel my lymph nodes on my inner thighs right below my abdomin.

Because of this im led to believe its some type of lymphoma. I feel no pain, just minor random aches nowhere specific. 5' 10" 135lbs (weight loss about 10lbs) and I eat ALOT of food every 2-3 hrs i feel starved and eat again trying to gain wieght, also my appitite has increased. 20 year old male. All of this happened after the lump on my rib appeared. Drank a red bull one day and while sittling feeling great and i had this pass out feeling coming on, not light headed because i kno exactly what that feels like, then my left eye seemed to slightly lower, (vision was messed up definately left eye) my arms from my fingers to across my chest went completely numb, happened 5 times on the way to the hospital. But i left because it stopped and have no insurence. Showed someone and while they were touching and pokeing (again no pain just discomfort) i had the same pass out feeling. not as bad at all this time. Not getting any better, cut out the caffene and eat (unfortunatly) healthy. Realy getting angry because i want to live my life, i work 2 jobs and my family isnt in a good financial position to take care of me. Please all i want to know is if anyone knows whats wrong with me. ill have insurence in about a month but i seem to be getting worse. Thank you.

I hope you have gone to the hospital or a Dr. Come on guys, some of these complaints sound serious. You don't want to play with your health. You could have a ruptured spleen or worse.

If you (or anyone) doesn't have health insurance go to a free clinic!!!!! They are everywhere!!!

You can get health coverage for cheap under the pre-existing condition plan --- http://www.healthcare.gov/law/features/choices/pre-existing-condition-insurance-plan/index.html

i had the same problem and went to the doctor. They ran a Mono test which came back negitive, they did my blood work and found that with in the last 3 months i had mono. It can feel a lot like the flu, and you often have sore throat and runny nose. There is nothing you can do about mono other than rest, it can take several months for it to be completely out of your system.

I have a pain in my left side below my ribs, a throbbing pain, but the more worrying thing is that everytime I eat food, about 5 minutes after, I reach and throw up a long string of mucus, I have absolutely no idea why or what it is.

Can you help me please, I have heard its a reflux, but I also seem to get a lot of catarrh in the morning, cough a little and then I feel stuff come from the back of my throat, which makes me cough even more.

Can anyone give me any advice to help me, please.

Hi Amy,

I experienced a pain in my upper left abdomen for over a year. It would come and go. Felt more like a ball of socks stuffed in my rib cage. Pain went from spleen area and down left flank of abdomen.  Just went through an ultrasound and CT scan. Found a 19 cm renal cyst growing off my left kidney. This "balloon" was pushing on my spleen. I had the cyst drained two days ago.  They took out 1.25 liters of fluid (think soda bottle). Was quite a relief!  Lost 6pounds in the process. Still having some discomfort in spleen area. Seeing doc on Tuesday. Will let you know what he says. Good luck!!

I have the same problem with pain involving my spleen. In my case it's Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia confirmed by blood test, Pathologist and Oncologist. Not much treatment in the early stages, later some the treatments sound bad.
