I've been on the pill for 2 years, and I finished my period 4 days before I went in for surgery. A week after my surgery, I am experiencing light bleeding (as if it is my period starting again). Is this because of the surgery and my cycle has been thrown off? Should I keep taking the my pills as usual? Am I still protected by the pill? Just a little concerned and would love an answer. Thanks!
Major surgery and lifestyle changes can cause breakthrough bleeding on the pill, as well as high amounts of stress.
I would think it would still be okay to continue with the pills.
Although mind, if you are on the combined pill, if you ever need surgery again, you should discontinue the pill or change to a progestin only method for four weeks up to major surgery which may immobilize you slightly, because of risks of thrombosis. Just a heads up.
