I have been itchy all over for nearly a year. The itching is most intense on my penis, but occurs all over my body. Ivarest is the only thing I have found to relieve the itch. There is no rash, the skin does not even get red because I avoid scratching. I am able to avoid scratching due to numerous cases of poison ivy when I was younger.
I shaved the itchy area looking for clues and that only intensified the itchiness. My first visit to the doctor was after shaving. My primary care was out, and her substitute told me it was just due to me shaving. She said put some lotion on, and it will go away.
I had to visit an infectious disease specialist due to a wart on my penis. I asked him about the itching, and he felt the itching was not from an infectious disease. I felt like I was getting blown off, but he suggested I see my primary care physician.
I visited my primary care physician. She tells me that I must be allergic to something. She suggested OTC allergy medication. I have not found this to help. The only relief I have found is ivarest, but this basically just numbs the area. This has been driving me crazy for over a year now and just keeps getting worse. I have tried hypoallergenic soaps and laundry detergent. For some time, I suspected it may be due to an allergy to polyester, but I am now doubtful.
Other information that may help:
I have an allergy to Alaskan snow crab,
I may be allergic to penicillin,
I have broken out in hives a couple times at Thai food restaurants. I haven't pinpointed the allergy from the Thai food. Several of us went there and we all shared our meals.
My apartment is in the basement which goes through both dry and humid spells.
I would like to be comfortable in my skin again. Please help.
