I had this problem about 5 years ago. My fingers on the right hand became swollen, itching and red. After a few day on my left hand. I felt burnig itching pain and my finger and joints doubled the size. The skin started crack on them very deeply. It started all together with cracking skin and swollen red nose and face around the nose and extensive inflamation. I was shocked, I had never experinced something like this I had never heard or knew somebody with such health problem. I though I was going fall apart. I went to see my GP who gave me antibiotics and some cream on fingers and my face, but he could not say any proper diagnosis. Obviously the cream and antibitics did not help very much. I felt constant weakness and kind of flu for very long time. I though I will never get rid of it.
So I went do the Chinese herbalist shop to get help just no far from where I lived. This chinese doctor lady was very helpfull and did give me diagnosis from my pulse, tongue and from my overall apearance. She told me I have extensive heat in my body system and my imunity system is very low. I was very happy to hear somebody who can tell what my diagnosis finaly is. Now I think would never have anwer from modern western medicine.
She gave me 7 big full bags with chinese herbs to drink them 3 x a day for a week and some little jar with natural cream to put on my face and my fingers. I drank these herbs as she told me. I must tell it was horrible bitter taste, but she says that the bitter taste is very important part of treatment.
Just in couple of days I felt much better. After 7 days I had my health restored. I went to see her after then as I was told. She gave me some more but different herbs to finish my treatment and advise how to keep healthy.
I live in London where too much rain so there is constant humidy in the air in your house, or in the work. I am not from England originaly so my body is not used to it. This was propably the reason why I had this horrible problem. This dump did get to my bones and lowered my imunity system with all this fingers and face nose problems. Thankfully to Chinese doctor and her treatment I am ok now..

I have recently developed severe itchy hands and feet. It started 3 days ago with a blotchy rash all over my body.(HOT) The rash has gone away but my hands and feet itch. Especially when they are warm, like under the covers at bed time. This is my third sleepless night filled of itching. I am recalling that the only thing different the day it started was that I went to get my allergy shot. I was a week and a half late so they decreased my dose. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. Nothing releaves them but cold ice water. But, once they heat back up, they itch again. Can anyone give me any hope? 40 year old healthy woman

After 8 doctors and a ton of tests and misdiagnosis, I finally got a biopsy on my fingers by my dermatologist and there is a diagnosis!! It's called Lupus Pernio which is a form of Lupus Erythematosus. I have been researching it and it's a bit complicated because it's not Lupus per se but can manifest into it. My doctor said what I have is a vascular and skin disorder associated with the above diagnosis. He put me on a medication that is also used to treat and prevent malaria. It makes me exhausted and gives me a bad headache. I am searching for alternative (holisitic) ways to treat this. My toes are involved as well as my fingers. My toes feel like they are frostbitten all day and then at night get extremely itchy and purple. My fingers have red raised itchy bumps on them. I've had this for months and I've been extremely frustrated. I hope this helps someone. Please give me your feedback.
Thank you!
Shari

I have had this problem for years now Usually twice a year start of summer and winter. I have not been to the docs can not see the point as it does go after a couple of weeks. Try putting your hands in cold water for about 5 minutes it does not make it go but does relive it for a while

Yep, all this sounds remarkably like what I'm going through at the moment. I had this once before about 2 years ago, but it just went after a few days and I kind of forgot about since. Now its happening again and worse. One finger is swollen around the middle knuckle and I cannot type with it. I would describe it as localized areas of red skin that are swollen and very painful to touch. Its sometimes itchy and causes tingle sensations. I've got it on 3 fingers and a toe so far. Its' been one week and I suspect it being some allergy.

I've been washing out of a bucket the past 10 days using shampoo. If I'm affected like that person who was tested positive for shampoo allergy, then that could explain things. My body would recently been exposed to much more shampoo due to the lack of rinsing compared to a taking a shower as Ive always done in the past. Its also winter and my fingers are nearly constantly cold.

When I saw my fingers getting big, red and than itchy.

Was v. scared.

went to the doctor but nothing really helped and it was getting worse than I just prayed.

And I thought about wearing gloves and keeping my hand away from the water as possible, when the need was to wash the hands. I made the tap water to luke warm than I washed my hands.

SO i think wear gloves and dont even touch cold water or /and keep away from water as much as possible.

To me the way I was scared, its the prayer that really helped as next morning from 8 fingers all were healed.

I too have a similiar problem. This is only in my hands and usually just one hand at a time, and is extremely random. it has only been happening for about 6 months. My hand or sometimes hands will begin itching between the knuckles but closer to the palm of my hand and around the middle finger. The itching gets so bad the only relief i can get is to smack my hands together to let the pain overbare the itching. after 20 minutes of itching they begin to swell and remains for an hour or two. this may only happen 2 or 3 times a month. tried taking benadryl with no relief. i have not gotten any medical attention yet, but I am curisous if anyone else found relief for this.

How Bizarre, I have just come on to google to see if i could find anything on itchy swollen fingers.
Mine has started only three days ago - the minute i get up - they tingle then get really itchy then swell and go very red, this lasts for about 10 minutes and then goes down again.
I can only liken it to when you get your fingers cold in the winter and then come into a warm house! it is only the fingers! not the thumbs and not the palms or back of the hands........
curiouser and curiouser!

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENING TO ME. I LIVE IN A NORTHERN CHICAGO SUBURB. IT FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. STARTED WITH A FINGER TIP, THEN TO MULIPLE FINGERS, THEN TO MY LEFT FOOT THEN BOTH FEET...BACK UP TO MY LEFT PALM THEN BOTH HANDS. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN AND IT USUALLY STARTS IN MID AFTERNOON. IF IT AFFECTS MY FEET I CAN HARDLY WALK STRAIGHT. I HAD TO BUY ORTHAPEDIC SHOES TO GIVE ME SUPPORT. THOUGHT IT WAS GOUT..NO. HAD MULTIPLE BLOOD TESTS: NEGATIVE. ALLERGY TESTS: NEGATIVE. MULTIPLE DOCTORS HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. I HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS AND SHOWED THEM TO THE DOCTORS AND ALL THEY EVER SAY IS: YOUR HANDS LOOK SWOLLEN OR HUM. NO OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS WORK. I HAVE HAD LIMITED SUCCESS WITH A FOOT CREAM THAT IS DESIGNED TO MINIMIZE ITCHING FEET. LIKE ANOTHER POSTER ON THE SITE MY FEET BEGIN TO ITCH AS SOON AS I GET INTO BED. MY WIFE SAYS I'M LIKE A GRASSHOPPER AS I SCRATCH MY FEET CONTINUOUSLY AGAINST EACH OTHER. I HAVE THE TINGLING SENSATION ALL THE TIME STEMMING FROM MY NECK DOWN MY ARMS,(MOSTLY MY LEFT ARM) ALL THE WAY INTO THE TIPS OF MY FINGERS. TOPS OF MY HANDS SWELL TO HUGE SIZE WHERE YOU CANNOT EVEN SEE VEINS ANYMORE. FIRST THE SWELLING, THEN ITCHING, THEN SCRATCHING, THEN PAIN ..ULTIMATELY GOING AWAY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME ONLY TO RETURN. WHAT IS THIS?

I think this might be helpful...I also get the above mentioned symptoms, but only in the colder months. Will post more as I find more remedies.

Homoeopathy for chilblains and frostbite

Although adopting preventive measures can save a large number of cases, some of them would still need medicinal help. Homoeopathy can be very effective in treating such cold related injuries and also it can eradicate the tendency for having chilblains every winter. Please remember that homoeopathic prescription is strictly symptom-based

Agaricus and Pulsatilla are homoeopathy’s best bet. They are indicated in both chilblains and frostbite when symptoms ask for them. Patients requiring Agaricus suffer intensely from cold, and its chilblains are terribly painful when the hands, or feet, are cold. Pulsatilla chilblains, on the contrary, "terrify" when they get warm. The chilblains of Agaricus are dreadfully sore when cold; those of Pulsatilla itch and burn to distraction when hot.

Sulphur is another key medicine when the above mentioned medicines fail. But it should be used only under professional guidance.

CHILLBLAINS- i get these sore itchy lumps on my fingers every winter and they last for months. A colleague told me she use to get them as a child- they are chillblains and usually down to poor circulation. She said to increase my intake of zinc- so im goin to see if it works.

My son has had a problem for the past few years on and off. All of the fingers of both hands become extremely red at the distal joints and swollen. He has been to our family physician and to a rheumatologist. There has been no definitive diagnosis made. They do believe it is some form of vasospasm. They pretty much ruled out arthritis. He is now 19 years old and suffers with this on and off. This seems to happen more so in the winter time. Heat seems to help him. My son is very thin and tall and is cold alot of the time. The fingers itch and are very stiff. What have you found useful for this? Do you think this is an allergy? I don't know what type of physician to consult with next. Any comments or feedback is appreciated.
