I have the same problem! Mine has been going on about a month off and on (more on than off). Years ago I had the same thing happen but only after I been gardening or something similar. I am confident it contact dermatitis. I applied a antihistamine cream and it would disappear in a few hours. This new wave of stuff doesn't disappear and instead last for days on end. I am right handed and spend long hours at the computer and thought maybe it could be traced to that. One problem though, last week I developed the same thing on one toe.

My husband has been having swollen, itchy, painful fingers every winter for the past 5-6 years. He has seen a doctor and thought it was an infection and was prescribed an antibiotic and it didn't work. Well, tonight he was in a lot of pain and I did my own research. I ran across a website describing a condition called chilblains. It is also known as perniosis. The symptoms described on the website stated everything that he has been dealing with. His symptoms were more prominent in the evening because he works in a cold environment during the day and when he warms up his hands his fingers start hurting and itching.

Chilblains is usually the result of an abnormal reaction of your body to cold. It tends to develop on skin that's exposed to cold and is then warmed too quickly, such as by warming your hands directly in front of a heater or fire. This cooling and rapid heating can cause small blood vessels under your skin to expand more quickly than nearby larger blood vessels can handle, resulting in a "bottleneck" effect and the blood leaking into nearby tissues. Exactly why this occurs in certain people is unknown. This is quoted from www.mayoclinic.com. Hope this helps everyone experiencing this pain.

Well, my plight doesn't seem so bad now that I have read everyone's post! For two days, three of my fingers on my left hand have been itchy and sometimes feel like a match has been touched to them. It is only the tips of the fingers. I have yet to have the swelling and rash. Guess I'll tough it out because it doesn't sound like the doctors can do anything.

I have had this for a few weeks too. The only things I can guess it might be due to are sendentariness in the winter somehow affecting blood flow or winter living conditions. Humidity in the house in the winter is 25% which is pretty low and I keep the house pretty cool - 55 during the day and 50 while sleeping. I work at home in front of the computer.

First of all, I'm a little relieved to see that I am not the only person having symptoms like these.

Just 3 days ago the middle and ring fingers of my right hand started to swell, I took notice to it at night as I was going to sleep. I thought no big deal, it will be gone in the morning.

Well when I woke up the swelling was a little worse and I noticed that my ring finger was the one affected the most (the pinkie, index and thumb aren't affected, at least not in comparison to the others). My ring finger is hot, swollen from the base to the tip making the skin very tight and hard to bend, and my fingers are sore when small amount of pressure is applied. When I try to do normal things with my right hand I am feeling discomfort int these fingers, and I thought it was just from the swelling but when I touch my ring finger around the middle joint it is sore, as though it should be bruised, but isn't. There is slight itching, but only with the ring finger which I also attributed to the swelling. But I'm am really unsure as this has never occured before. I am 25 years old, I quit smoking recently and I do intake a lot of sugar and carbs. But pretty much the only thing I drink is water.

I was trying to wait it out to see if the symptoms would diminish. My left hand is not affected at all, it's been 3 days now and I'm debating whether or not to go the the doctor since I do not have insurance.

Does anyone have any suggestions or a very similar scenario that they were able to rid themselves of?

I have also tried taking Benadryl and Ibuprofen, but neither seemed to help at all. %-)

i have itchy very swollen hands, and my arms and legs have red patches all over what is it?

I actually have this on my right hand, what I know for sure is that my hands and feet get really cold. What my doctor had said was that when your hands don't get blood, your nerves go into spasm and puff up, causing the redness. If your hand or feet are extremely cold, this reaction of redness will occur a few days after. I am trying to stay warm now, and it is helping a lot.

Saying this, if you already have it, the puffiness will go away in a week or so, and the itchiness usually stops after a couple of days.

Hope this helps.

What Do Itchy and Swollen Fingers Indicate?

That's exactly what i'm going through. On my right hand too.

But the itchiness goes away for awhile if I just don't touch anything at all.

I don't wanna go to a doctor, cuz I feel like they're gonna tell me that it's allergies. But I know it's NOT allergies.

It's been happening for about a couple of months now, and i don't think just ignoring it would be a wise thing to do. So when I get a chance, I will go to a doctor too. Cuz I really don't wanna have to not touch anything for as long as it takes for the itching to stop.

I'm also having a problem similar, and it usually happens during or after rain fall no matter where i am in the world. my fingers and toes get slightly itchy, they warm (but not burning) and swell up. it usually happens on and around my knuckles, and last for and hour or 2. It is not as sever as some people, but nobody else i know has had this happen to them. It happens every 3-4 weeks. It also happens sometimes when im in the ocean, but always on a rainy wet day.
