I've had my mirena for 3 months and ever sense i got it i've had horrible migraines and acne!! i've never had acne until i got this IUD. The insertion was the worst pain i've ever experienced so i'm scared to death to get it removed in 2 weeks.

I am in the same situation. I thought I was going to vomit during the insertion. It was the worst 30 seconds of pain in my entire life. I hate the weight gain, I have shocking sharp painful cramps everyday and most importantly, I went from having an incredibly strong sex drive to complete and utter loss of sexual enjoyment. I want it removed so badly but I am petrified. How did the removal go?

I agree I had one for 5 years, went in to take it out and I'm great with pain.... let me tell you, it was painful. I was upset my dr didn't warn me. It felt like she scraped my insides the whole way out and that it was stuck and she just yanked it out. To remove it it took like 20 seconds, but I was not happy. Needless to say to have another one inserted 2 minutes later wasn't a treat either. Having one inserted, though, feels like a horrible cramp for like 3 minutes, then for me the pain goes away completely.

Completely disagree. Mine was a quick pinch to go in and a serious pain being yanked out and severe cramping and bleeding afterwards. They even had me use the medication to expand your cervix and Valium to relax muscles because they said mine was going to be difficult. I think you're lucky it was so easy.

Geez they gave me a week in between taking out the first and putting in the second. I had the same as you such awful pain coming out and serious cramping for hours after. I think everyone's is different.

I just want to thank every woman who has taken the time to write about her experience. I was curious to know if it would hurt when my Mirena gets taken out, and I found so many affirming comments to my personal experience, especially the painful insertion, getting faint and sick immediately afterward, gaining ten pounds, and the acne. Thank you ladies so much!

Thank you all, for the honest reports, as well as the vindication for my gut feeling and observations that we're never confirmed in the medical community. I have not had a happy experience overall, with 3 years of the Mirena. Insertion: godawful and I fainted. I got it to treat heavy bleeding. My periods were no longer heavy, but I've had intermittent, continual, annoying bleeding for 3 years. I've also mostly felt that crampy, period or ovulation pain too many days out of every month. My midwife reassured me every year that; "Some women take a little longer for the spotting to cease. I believed her for two years. I'm nothing if not patient and trusting of midwives. I had a month or two with nothing, I thought things were going back to normal, and then: clear confirmation that the bleeding can begin post-sex and just keep going. It's been 19 days. It comes out tomorrow. I think I feel reassured by the many reports of it not hurting much, but I may have an Ibuprofen for breakfast all the same.

I've had my mirena in for 8 years now. It's long overdue to be removed but I don't have insurance. I don't have a period at all and haven't since the month it was inserted. I never experienced the cramping others have described. I'm having it removed in the morning and not having another in case I decide to have a child in the next year or so. My biggest concern is the pain of removal. I believe it's still sitting correctly and my strings haven't seemed to change. But I accidently tugged em recently and the cramp in the center of my body was intense so I'm concerned about the associated pain the removal will cause....any advice?
