Three years ago my ENT diagnosed gangrene in my ears and gave me cortisone cream & pills only. It cleared up for approx a week. So this year I went to a dermatologist and he took a culture and diagnosed staph and gave me antibiotic cream & pills (Septra DS). So, I'm thinking I have had this infection for three years. I don't know how the ENT never took a culture from me for two years! Does anyone know the long term effects of staph and what the side effects are? Thanks in advance for any information. Rita
I am a 28 y/o F
I did have a staph infection on me lower part of my right leg when i was 15 y/o - hospitalized for a few days on antibiotics and never had a system until now.
Starting in Sept of this year ('10) I noticed a bump on my forehead and took it as a pimple. My girl friend mentioned i should get it checked out b/c it was very puffy and red, so i did. Turned out to be cellulitis. Since then i have had major pain in my left ear. Been on Bactrim DS, Augmenten, doxycline (spell check) and was allergic to that. Went on Allerga D, Back to Bactrim then hospitalized for a week with IV of Vancomycin (and allergic to that). The ENT came in and saw me while in the hospital and said my ears were normal. I did have my ear swabbed and had found bacteria and yeast. Once released from the hosptial. I was placed on a Fungal medcine and other antibiotic. Saw the same ENT this past Tuesday and still saw nothing in my ears and even scoped my nasal cavaty. He has placed me on Presidone which has given me imsominia. I have done a lumbar puntcure, CT scan and bone scan and nothing is showing up. I have what looks to be ance all over my chest and forehead which even on my period months i never broke out to this degree.
I have been on all these antibiotics for nearing two months straight and feel the exact same in which i started once the cellulities was released on my forehead. I am extremely tired, headaches, eyes are sensitive to lights, dizzy, have tunnel vision, confused a lot and a bit disoriented most of the days. I cant sleep (even with taking sleeping aids). My ear feels like a sharp ice pick is jammed in my ear drum. I am sensitive to sounds. I feel just broken! Ive always been active and healty. I dont like to drive at the moment. This is becoming very dibilitating no less annoying!
I have another request to see an ENT for a second opinion.Code:
