Hi everyone, I need to know about keeping insulin and byetta pens cool in extreme heat. I live in a tropical region and its pretty much hot year round. I'm particularly worried when I'm in may car because it can be really hot when I first get in. I quickly turn on the air conditioner to get things cooled down but sometimes it can take a long time. I'm a type 2 who is on the go a lot. I have actually left my pen in the car for several hours in the heat before I realized I left it behind. Anyone have some suggestions about keeping my insulin cool. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, There are a number of ways to keep your insulin cool. Some ways are inexpensive and others are expensive. So, it really depends on how much money you want to spend. Inexpensively, you can get some small gel packs to place around your supplies. You could put this directly in your purse if you want (if female). I bought a small neoprene purse that has a zipper on the top and I put gel packs in there. The one I bought was used for art supplies and it is really nice. I think I paid $12 for it. I carry a fairly large purse so this fits in nicely. If necessary you can use a heavy duty baggy that you put food in to freeze. There really inexpensive and when they wear out you can throw them away. They do have mini fridges that are batter operated that can keep your supplies cool for up to two days. Some of them can be plugged into your car when need to recharge. Some of them come with adapters so you can plug them in the wall as well when you're at work or in a motel. I think most motels have a small fridge these days. These mini fridges are some what pricey starting at around $50 and up. But, if you can afford they are great.
