I've noticed that through puberty that my labia minora has became more protruded
I am only 16 and I am not sexually active, this is because me and my boyfriend are waiting till marriage -not because I am self concious.
I hear that its perfectly normal but i finnaly spoke to my mum and it seems to be a hereditary thing in our family.
I'm planning on mentioning it to a doctor incase it might cause problems when I'm older and when I have kids
If there is a problem I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later.
Apart from the fact it makes me a little self conscious when I go swimming it can be very uncomfortable when I'm sitting
I've even mentioned it to my boyfriend and he doesn't care- why would he anyway?
I think its weird that 14 year olds feel self conscious about it because they just see their bodies as sexual objects. At any age you should have more respect for yourself and not be sleeping with boys or "ladz" who see u like that. Wait till you find someone worth it- someone who doesnt just see appearences.
I can wear a bikini and not care now
Went on this site and it made me realise that actually my Labia minora is something to be proud of :-P

I'm a 15 year old girl, and I first noticed that my labia wasn't like the girls in the porn when I was about 11. At first I was really confused about it, at the time I wasn't quite aware of what my vulva looks like or should look like, but I was a very curious girl so I used to sit in front of the mirror and I explored my 'bits' completely. I used to try to tuck them in because I had thought that I accidentaly moved something or stretched it but I was also going through puberty so I then realised my body was just changing. I realised it was normal. even though it was normal, just like you I was self consious... what would my bf think? what if he's turned off? it musn't be sexy because it's not in any porn.. but the more I researched it the more I learned to love myself because in the end of the day, its not just whats in between your legs that makes you who you are. It's also your personality and who you are inside, what you're like. I learned that before I should love any one elses body, I should love my own. I should be proud of what I have because this is who I should be...
It's not massive, but it's not exactly small either.. when I am aroused it protrudes quite a bit.. they are fleshy but I love them because they are a part of me. And no bodies are exactly the same, I am proud to have my own unique body, I am comfortable with myself. When I'm walking outside and I get aroused, I can feel them rubbing and I feel sexy. I am not saying that people who have naturally small labia look bad, all labia are different shapes and sizes, the important thing is that we should love ourselves exactly the way we are. The way we were created. Variety is really what makes life great, anything great! So you should be comfortable and happy with yourself and the way you look.
There are girls who are saying 'oh I am so going to get labiaplasty when I'm older'. You know there are girls in Africa and Egypt who get their vulvas mutilated and cut, sewn up, brutally with a razor and no medication to numb the pain, because it's part of their 'religion'. There are girls that wish they had what you have in between their legs. They go through emotional and physical pain every day because of that. It's not your body that needs modifying, it's the way you look and feel about yourself that needs modifying.
I do understand that in some cases, they are really very uncomfortable and if they get in the way of the rest of your life because it's THAT painful to walk, then okay. But if it's just because of your self consiousness, then please don't do that to yourself. Your body works for you every day and does everything you tell it to, don't abuse it. Praise it, look in the mirror and point out everything you like about your body. Whether its the colour of your eyes or your fingers, and say why you like it. You really will feel better about it :-D
And in the end of the day if a guy really breaks up with you because of how you look down there, then he really wasn't worth it. :-)

I have a protruding labia too but it doesn't cause me discomfort and I don't mind it any more (I'm twenty-two now). Everyone is different -just look at the women around you. Some are curvy, some are skinny. Some have large breasts, some have smaller ones. Some people have brown eyes, some have blue or green. Some people have longer labias, and some have shorter ones- no one shape is better than any other. They are all fine, just all different.
At 15 and 16 you're still growing, your body probably hasn't settled yet and everything feels out of proportion, so don't get too hung up on one tiny body part just yet. If you get into your twenties and it's still causing you pain or problems then you can begin to discuss solutions with your doctor.
I don't like wearing bikini bottom's either because I suspect my labia will 'pop out' but you still have options at the pool:
1) 'Boy shorts' - basically hot pants for swimming. They give you slightly more cover and come in some really cute patterns
2) Board shorts - like what surfers wear. You can get shorter ones and longer ones, and they look great with a bikini top
As for sex, honestly, if the man you are with is insulting you or making you feel bad about your body, then he is not worth your time no matter how much you fancy him. Most teenage boys aren't mature enough yet, but a man that respects and cares for you will be able to deal with it and like you as you are. That guy is worth waiting for, so be patient.

For my taste, the bigger the better...! because there is more friction, and thats what it's all about... don't worry!

Girl, I can totally relate to you. I am also fourteen years old, and I have a protruding labia as well...It feels incredibly awkward and it looks discusting... Like you, I hope when I grow old enough, I will definitely have surgery...
