Hello,
i am 23 and I haven't had my period in at least 5 years. My periods stopped when I graduated highschool and moved away to college. I also gained about 50 lbs during my first year or two of college. Now I am loose weight.

My mom was concerned about the no period thing so i went to the doctor and they sent me for a complete set of blood work. My hormones levels and thyroid were fine but my prolactin level was elevated. I didn't have the time to be concerned so about two years later I went back to my doctor. This time she sent me for an MRI and then a pituitary study. It turns out that I have a small growth on my pituitary gland.

Like most people I wanted a diagnosis and a cure, however my doctor told me that not having my period was not a problem and there was nothing to really worry about. But I miss having a period. I hated it when I had it but i really want it. I am planning on trying to get pregnant soon. I think the weight gain has to do with not having my period and shedding my lining.

I met with a nurse practioner at my college for a physical before I traveled and she seemed really concerned and said that it's not normal not to have a period for that long. I am confused and I need some advice.

I am worried now becuase I haven't had my period in 5 years and I can seem to loose weight and keep it off.I can loose it but i end up gaining it back. I don't have health insurance and don't have my own doctor at this point in time. But I am confused about one doctor saying it's really not a problem and anotehr saying this is a big problem.
