My period is usually quite regular, maybe a day or 2 late from time to time, nothing more. My last one started September 27 and lasted its usual 4 days. Since then, I haven't had one, I have had scramps and was convinced on more than 1 occassion that it's coming, but nothing still. I started feeling really tired with no particular reason, having back pain and also had swollen feet and ankles for a few days. Now my breasts feel so tender and sore, my nipples are also sore. I have taken to pregnancy tests since missing my period which both came back negative. I am also noticing slight weight gain which could be as a result of the increased appetite I have lately. What could be the cause of all this?

First off, the usual early pregnancy symptoms are:

  • Swollen/sore breasts
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Abdominal bloating and/or cramps
  • Morning sickness and a change in your sense of taste and smell

Things like swollen ankles, back pain, cravings, and heartburn do not usually turn up until later, in the second and third trimesters.  You are more likely to lose your appetite than have a huge appetite in early pregnancy as well.

You have had a negative pregnancy test. If you are sure you took it after your period was due, that should mean you are not pregnant. What could be the cause of all of this? Hormonal imbalance, perhaps?

Any type of medication and/or wrong PH balances can throw urine and blood test both completely off.
