I am currently on Levemir for my diabetic treatment. I have been invited to an all-nighter at my friend's house on Saturday. I know there will be a lot of food there and well, alcoholic drinks as well. I would like to have one or two, but would it be ok with my diabetes and that? I was thinking of a couple of wine coolers or that hard lemonade stuff. So I just want to make sure my sugars won't go up bad with having some. I don’t want to be a stick in the mud at the party and I haven’t had a drink since I have been diagnosed. I didn’t even drink at my wedding reception so that is doing pretty good, I think. I guess if there are some diabetics out there that know anything about drinking and how to count it as a carb and that, it would be great and then I know what I can and can’t drink Saturday night. It will be fun no matter what I drink, but it will be more fun if I can have a little to drink! Thanks!
You can have a drink at your friend’s party, just be sure to drink something that is lower in carbs, like beer or vodka. Wine coolers are higher in carbs so you will need to watch it when you drink those. One would be about all you can drink for the night. Also be sure to eat something like nuts which are higher in protein and less in carbohydrates. You may be able to drink diet cola with a little whisky if they have it. You can dilute the mixture with more diet cola so that you don’t overdo it with the carbs. You can still have fun even without the liquor. Your health is the priority.
