I just turned 70 the 7th of March and my doctor saw me Friday night and had no changes, It's like he says their are two reasons I'm still here # 1 God's not finished with me yet and # 2 I keep my brain active. I have been married 47 years Sept. I have worked for a TV station for 28 years right here from my bed monitorning ploice scanners and other things. I also send out an out an insperational mailing 7 days a week.I do have a nurse that sees me everyday and and caretaker during the day plus my wife who fixes my meals of which I can eat anything.plus she does many other things. If you would like to ask me anything feel free to email me.

Symptoms could range from high arches on your feet, falling unexpectedly, and scoliosis. It does not affect your intelligence. My daughter has made straight A's in school while fighting this disease. She graduates with a Bachelors degree with an Accounting Degree in finance late this Summer. Life expectancy an estimate but one can die from anything before hand. Life your life my dear gem and try not to let it get to you. My heart goes out to you.
My mother-in-law has Friedreich's Ataxia and is 80. She is now in a motorized chair but still lives independently.
I have the point mutation of this disease and I have not had all the complications I have been reading about and I was diagnosed at the age of 9. Does anybody else know anybody with the point mutation?
I have FtredericksFredericks ataxia and I will be 80 years old on ChristmasDay if I live that long. . I have lots of the symptoms including swallowing solid foods. I am motorized wheelchair and bed bound but still alive. Have heart failure and two heart valves calcifying. If you are young do not get scared just take the best care of your body that you can and keep in close touch with all the doctors you can find who will try to help you.
Archie,
God Bless you. MAKE SURE YOUR WIFE KNOws HOW MUCH. YOU APPRECIATE HER. This disease is insidious and affects different people different ways at different times of life. God has a time and a purpose for us all. If we just believe he is always with us we will be happy and content with our lot. I will be 80. In 4 months and am confined to a motorized wheelchair and bed. I am a widow with very little help. Somedays i am too weak to get something to eat. Just thank God for your wife. Sincerely,
Dolores

My cousin was diagnosed with it when he was 5. He is now 10 and is in a wheelchair and can barley function without help. It really depends on the severity of the disease. They say my cousin might make it to age 25-30. But most can live longer. It all depends and all we can do is pray for a cure.
Hello Sarch. This is so good to hear. I am so terrified. My boyfriend is 36 and was just diagnosed. But he has been how he is since a toddler. Wobbly, wide gait, some speech issues but otherwise very healthy. His neuro said he is considerably well compaired to others. We were pregnant with twins and lost them a year ago. A lot to take in since falling in love with this guy. May I ask how long you have had symptoms? Thank you for the positive post!
Well my wife did well she was 54 and her sister who also had Friedreich Ataxia was 50 but my wife never complained, she past away last month.
Hi, I came across your post and was encouraged by your nephew's story. I am a 38 year old female and was showing symptoms of FA since I was 6, dx when I was 11, and in a wheelchair since I was 14.
I was wondering how your nephew is doing and was wondering if he would like a penpal.
I look forward to hearing back from you and hope you are all well.

I have a good friend who is in her mid 50's, diagnosed at 16, still quite amazing. In fact, she is far more attractive than the rest of us her age because the constant firing of her muscles has kept her body and face firm. Motor tasks are getting harder, spasms, there are challenges, but her mind is as sharp as ever, she looks great and she has founds ways to adapt.
Thank you for this information.I hahaha son and daughter with ataxia of Friedrich.he is will be 46 this yeas and she 44.
