Hi,
Thank you for writing a bit from your story...I'm 30, and 2 weeks ago, my left lung collapsed 2nd time in 7 months. Cause?! Mechanical. Drs told me because my bronchis weakened, they cannot really put a stent and recommend surgical removal, in order to have a normal life.
Any word...advice about after surgery?
What kind of sport/training you made first?
What about pregnancy? How long after the surgery?
Thank you and I really appreciate your time and your answer,
Ana

Hey there sorry to hear about your dad. I suffered a rare type of cancer at 13 years old had my lung removed, it took several months to be able to do stuff but over time i got stonger and have lived a pretty normal life im 37 now and work in a physically demanding care role, only thing ive had trouble with is the odd chest infection following a cold as it makes it trickier to clear your lung so you end up with infection and very short of breath but i have found acting fast ie getting to a gp fpr anti biotics asap has me back to normal fairly quick. I have managed to keep fairly active since i recovered the only thing i wouldnt do would be go hard on the cardio ie long distance running etc but i find most sports are OK for me but maybe just for a shorter period of time
I found it took maybe 6 months to recover from the removal itself, but worth the wait cos living with one lung is way better than struggling with one thsts under stress and another that doesnt work, the one that is left expands and moves over to conpensate and it can almost make up for having one removed, well you have about 70-80% lung capacity but unless you have a cold or chest infection you feel pretty much normal but give yourself plenty time to recover your body will thank you for it later.
Hi I had my lung removed 4 years ago I am now 64, it is hard to get a breath ,my specialist put me on ANRO inhaler it has helped a lot ,but since then I had a MI AND 3 stents followed by a stroke so breathing has got worst with medication .I still get around not as much as I hoped ,and limited in what I can do ,but still smiling and living for each day .wish you well and a speedy recovery .
my husband has lung cancer his left lung has just a small opening and is not functioning, his right lung has pneumonia and pneumonitis, lot of skar tissue is on predisone, antibiotics. my question is if the left lung is "dead" what happens ? will it rot? with no issues? also has possibility of heart blockage
i am 66 years old & had my upper left lobe removed 9 weeks ago i feel ok now & have played 3 games of golf 2 in a cart & the last one i walked it is about a 6k walk. but like your father i feel like i can't get enough air & the more i try the more i can't get it but when i don't think about it i seem to be able to get enough air so maybe a part of it is anxiety
I was born with only one lung and I'm 35yrs old now. I have severe asthma and my breathing is getting seriously bad. Dec of 2019 I was sick with pnemonia and every since then my breathing more than half as bad as it was before I had gotten sick. I wanted to go back to the hospital but the Covid broke out so I never went back and now I'm out of inhalers and breathing treatments and I don't know what to do. The doctor said that I have a huge pocket of fluid in my only lung when I was in the hospital and believe it is much worse now. I have been in the process of getting my ssdi and ssi for going on 4yrs now but keep getting denied, Even during this pandemic. I know personally 2 people who have been approved for social security benefits within months during this pandemic which one of the people still works and the other is obese that is self caused because of being lazy and not wanting to work. I'm on my second application which is in the appeal stage to see the judge and is coming up on a year since I filed for the appeal. I see many people getting approved for reasons that are not serious and could adjust to other work. I have only one lung and I have serious breathing problems during a respiratory effecting pandemic and I get told my condition is not that serious. If anyone can help me or even take down the messed up health care system this country has, I beg you to please contact me and if you can't do anything to help me but you can call out the system to fight for people like me then I will be happy to die with a smile on my face knowing that there are some good left in this corrupt world
I was born with only my right lung and I have had asthma all my life. I never let it slow me down any when I was a kid and I played baseball while doing martial arts both starting at age 5 up until I was 17 years old. I am now 35years old and I am not breathing well at all. I live in Texas in a heavy refinery area and my breathing continues to worsen. I get light headed every time I stand up to the point where I feel like I am going to pass out and my feet feel like they are freezing like I have bad blood circulation. Even during this pandemic that effects the respiratory system, I can't seem to find any help and I keep getting denied social security benefits. Last Dec I was told by the Dr in the er that I have a huge pocket of fluid in my lung and it is very serious. I am scared of catching the Covid so I Don't leave my room and I am out of inhalers and breathing treatments, if anyone can help me, I'd be very appreciated. In texas, they don't give white men Medicaid and I have Medicaid from Colorado but my state refuses to help me, they say that my condition is not that serious when I get denied during this pandemic but yet give it to people who have arthritis in one hand. My advice to anyone who was born with only one lung or even has had a lung removed, DO NOT MOVE TO TEXAS while thinking about applying for medical help or anything. To the young people who are born with only one lung, I know you have some breathing difficulties at times and think you are able to do things that everyone else can do, BUT think about your future. When you get older, your younger years catch up with you and things WILL get harder for you so SLOW DOWN. It's like if you break a bone when you are young, when you get older that injury will most likely give you issues years down the road. I know people are different and it may not affect everyone the same but if you have issues with your breathing during your life time while you were born with only one lung then I promise you that it only gets worse.
I was born with only one lung. My left lung never developed and my right lung grew to compensate for the missing left lung and it pushed my heart more to the left.
Cancer in my airway going into my left lung was so bad, that left lung was removed. 5 + years ago.
6 weeks after surgery, i returned to work on lite duty. Field Service Engr. Installing, relocating, and servicing Newspaper inserting machines and Press Conveyors. Cancer has since been found and treated in my remaining lung. CyberKnife and then Keytruda.
At first i could walk up 15-20-30-35vsteps. That has now reversed itself. I can walk a mile today, but if there is an ever slight incline, I'm toast.
h/aving COPD is advancing my decline.
I am now 67 years old and trying to remain grateful that i have today.
So, if you smoke, stop. Get scanned. T/here is life with 1 lung ahead of me.
be well. God Bless. Cliff B/.

After my sister has her left lung removed two weeks ago, she now wants the heat turned up. Usually she likes the house cool. In the winter, we sleep with heat set at 55 degrees. Is something wrong?
