I had Mirena put in about 9 months ago...the first month was normal..and then it went down the hill...:(...after 4 months i thought of removing it as i had my period for 10 days heavy and the rest 18 days spotting .I had two days break between.

Now i have my period for 7 days and the next 7 days i am spotting...I am definetly not impress by this device but i have no more options so i am trying to wait for the year mark to hit and see if its going to improve...

I've had the mirena for about 8 months...this is.my second time the first it wasn't inserted correctly and I had spotting all the time. I don't spot any more but my periods are long, like 8 to 10 days and my cramps are similar to contractions and happen for a few days prior to getting my period. I have also gained about 15 pounds and have a lower sex drive :( but the success rate of not getting pregnant is currently worth the downsides for us at this point.

i agree it was really painful due to the fact that i've never had a child. i passed out while getting it , not a good experience but worth is in the long run. :-)

I got my mirena back in ealy June 2011 and it is now April 2012 and for the first since I got it I have missed my period. Every month since I got it my periods have started out light for about 3 days and then a week later I will start bleeding again for 2 or 2.5 weeks!! I usually Bleed 3 out of 4 weeks a month and now that I haven't bled since early march I'm a little worried about pregnancy!

I got merina inserted in may 09. It was quite uncomfortable but got over that quickly. Bled for about 3 wks after, then spotting every month for next 2.5yrs. It was a dream. Then around nov 11 started getting severe cramps on left side that went all the way down my leg. In march this yr got what was a normal period for me, lasted about 6 days. Then on april 1 got another and i still have it. Not happy and wondering will it ever end. My poor man wondering the same.

I'm so glad I found this forum. I thought I was alone. I asked my family and friends who use this IUD and they all have no complaints.

I'm 27 years old and I've been on this rollercoaster for almost 2 years.
I got Mirena June 2010 had three weeks of bleeding in July then spotting each month thereafter.
2011 was great. Periods were extremely light (which never happened to me before). I bled for the normal 4 to 5 days.

Since March 2012, my periods are 9 days long. The first 3-4 days are light. Almost like I'm not even on. The last 5-9 are miserably heavy.  I hate it.  I have to schedule everything around my cycle.I even  downloaded a period tracker app just to tell me when Ill be bleeding. I also have the sweet cravings like every night(no weight gain). And have really bad acne like I'm on my way to 9th grade biology.

My situation is similar to many others. I didn't have any bleeding until 5 days after my insertion. I believe it was my period, I wasn't on it when I had it inserted. The only issue is it was almost a 2 week period, I felt like I was getting diaper rash from having pads on all day and night, too scared to use tampons. My periods are usually 4-5 days. Hopefully ill be lily enough for them to stop completely. Its only been just over a month, but other than diaper rash...ugh...I have no other complaints.

I hear ya!
My periods used to be 4 days: no cramps, no emotional swings...
Now I feel like cray person around my periods!
I still don't get cramps, but my period lasts for about 9 days... drives me nuts! I cannot feel good about myself during those days... neither could I have a good intercourse with my husband... It's just make me feel "dirty"

It's been 20 days tat I got my IUD in. It's also been 20 days that I've had my period. Sense having my period for this long my body has been acting up in a weird way. Such as, dizzy ness, vomiting, mood swings, and the most weird and oddest of all them all is, that my female part has been discharging meat like skin from inside me. I'm starting to get a feeling that i might be expecting again but maybe my child is in danger with the IUD inside me...

My mirena was placed on March 20, 2012 it is now June 29, 2012 and for the past 3 months I have had a period more often than not and I'm not sure how much more I can take. I love my boyfriend very much for dealing with this whole process but I'm afraid if it doesn't stop soon we are both just going to be miserable forever. I can't even attempt to have sex because of how gross and "unsexy" I feel and it's starting to take a huge tole on my confidence. I went back for my 6 week check up and my doctor said everything was fine and that it just takes time. I hope sooner rather than later. If it's not full on bleeding it's brown spotting or tissue discharge from my uterus shedding. This past period is going on over two weeks with no stopping. started light then got heavy then light again and I thought ysterday it would stop but today just the same old story =(
