I have had IUD for almost 3 years, and although it has been lighter it feels like all I do is have a period. It seems to stop and a few days later it starts again. My sister and friends have each had one with no or very little periods. It has impacted on the physical relationship with my husband because it seems like i always have a period. Seeing this forum makes me feel better and that others are experiencing the same. I am going to see my gyno in a few weeks, and I am having it out- not to mention my IUD moved out of place to boot. This has not been a good experience for me at all, I was hoping it would have worked because with my age (43) going on the pill is not an option. Thanks for sharing, I feel a bit better.

Yes!!!! The purpose of me getting the Mirena was to STOP my periods. From someone that has a 3 to 4 day period - I've now have up to 2 weeks. Granted it isn't 2 weeks of heavy bleeding, but it is none the less there. Like a slow leaking tap. This is the effective contraception if nothing else. VERY frustrating

I have gotten my iud 2 years ago and I had very light spotting for a week then after that no period but my period has always been irregular. So now jump foward to this year I'm bleeding after intercourse. I don't know if it's a period or is it bleeding because my iud has moved or shifted. So I have a appointment on Thursday to find out but I'm kinda scared

I have had my mirena for almost a year now and I've since had periods that last from 8-14 days. I don't think this is normal and it is keeping me from engaging in sex at all so I suppose it's an effective birth control! :(

This is now my second time getting the Morena, my first time was great, I had it the whole 5 years and never had a problem and my periods had completely stopped. This time got it in the beginning of November 2014 and have been having periods that last about 2 weeks at a time they are very light and rarely ever need to use a pad and don't even realize I'm bleeding til I go to the restroom and wipe, it's almost 6 months later (which can be normal and each time it can affect your body differently), I don't really have any side affects or really any cramping, I really have no problems with the mirena and will always use it even if I have to put up with a longer period.

I am right at a year too and having the same exact thing! My last couple perios actually were very light and short so I thought they were about to finally go away but instead, right at a year, BAM! Big, heavy, long period!!! And yep! Sweet cravings from hell! I'm afraid I'm really going to start gaining weight with these strong cravings. This is not good.

I had mine inserted 7 months ago. My problem is that I will have a period that lasts 7 days...then a break of 4-5 days, then another period starts!!! I'm just about to contact my gynocologist and have him book me in for a partial hysterectomy!! I'm 45 yr old and until 12 months ago, I had the easiest, regular periods.

I've had the Mirena for 2.5 years as of May 2015. Insertion was painful but not as bad as I expected. However, the whole thing was hell for 6 months. I bled, cramped and the darn thing felt like it was poking me in the uterus and the string ends were sticking out so I had to have the dr trim them and then after that the strings felt like they were rubbing me raw. Insertion hurt so much that I chose to keep it longer because my friends kept telling me 6 months was the magic number. My friends were right because it actually started adjusting at around that time. I had light periods and light cramping, however my acne went crazy and I was really moody. I think switching from the pill, which suppressed those issues, was the real issue but still a side effect of the iud. I'm in my 30's still having acne. Sucks. Before the Mirena, I was always 28 days, now it's about 23-25 day cycle that lasts an average of 7-8 days. This month it acted like it was stopping and then started again. I'm at day 12 today. It's light but still there. I never know what it will be like. Sometimes I get random extra periods and about every 6 months I bleed for two weeks. Sometimes I even get my period after sex. I'm not a lucky one who doesn't get a period. I have friends that don't get periods on the iud. I check my string about every 4 months and my fiancé can't tell it's there. I wish Yaz wouldn't have high blood clot risks. It was the best. I'm half way through my 5 years it's a pain with many cons, but I keep it. I'm forgetful so it helps. The Mirena is a real bother but I know I won't get pregnant so there is that at least. Hope this helps. I won't say do or don't do it. Just know what could happen.

Idk if you can help with this one: I've had my IUD for a year and a half, at first I had cramps and bleeding for about 4 months straight (which I heard was normal), but my period has not regulated. It lasts for at LEAST 3 weeks and my sex drive is completely gone. Is there anything I can do about either one?

The same thing is happening to me, exactly as you described it! You might want to check with your healthcare provider, and see if you have an infection, merina causes infections like BV and other vaginal infections.

I got my mirena in the beginning of June. I always had cramping and I was either spotting or on my period for most of the time and for longer. HOWEVER it is now the 5th month in and I have no period with very minimal cramping (along with other minimal period symptoms)! My sex drive is Also coming back! I took a preg test and it was negative so I know it's the IUD. I feel like im finally reaping the benefits of the IUD. Hang in there loves.
