I am a male, 60 years old with a lisfranc fracture/dislocation approximately 2mm as the result of an auto accident. I was in an auto accident in 2007 and decided to treat the Llisfranc conservatively with-out surgery though bone fusion was recommended. The pain level is at about a three, not taking any medication for almost 2 years and I can walk about a mile before the slight pain starts. I wear a custom shoe, orthotic and a compression sock. At my age, I am wondering what the long-term effect by not having the surgery? Any opinions please let me know.
It sounded like your self treatment has been working out very well for you. Untreated fracture and dislocation tend to heal by themselves. Calcium deposit would have formed at the fracture site to restore strength and stability. You most likely would have experienced more pain and disability, and risked getting a secondary infection if you had undergone the surgery.
