Hello, I have been having simular problems for about 6 years, I have been to several gyno appointments and have had numerous test did. The doctor says everything is normal, the only thing he saw was O V cyst, and small ftbroids on the outside of my uterus. He said that it could be numerous of things. He suggested that I have a hysterctomy. I told him that I wanted another child I just wanted the pain to stop, but not like that he prescribed me some pain medicine and that was it. Im no doctor but I believe this problam acurred from birth control. I believe that our bodies are made to have periods and that when we stop that process it creates problems for us. So I dont take birth control anymore I havent took any for about 41/2 years now. I believe thats what messed my body up. Im glad to know that there are other people out there trying to figure out a solution to our problem.

Hi Ladies.  I have suffered from this issue for years.  I am 37 and have had female issues...fibroids....cysts etc.  I believe, these are all caused by a hormonal imbalance.  About 6 months ago I started acupuncture and within the first month, these symptoms went away completely.  I actually started acupuncture for fertility.  Now, as I prepare for IVF, I am on the pill.   Sure enough- within 1 week of being on the pill my pain and suffering started back up- I believe due to the new hormones.  I'm honestly in shock.  These symptoms were literally gone after working with my acupuncturist.

If I was not under fertility treatment, I would stick wtih acupuncture (1 x per week by the way) and avoid any unnatural hormones (pill etc).  She had me so balanced in such a short period of time.  Please try this if you can.  I think it could help!  this only gets worse as you age....or at least this has been  my experience.

I'm just reading this now, a good two years after you posted this but it would be great if you could post back. I have been experiencing the same exact issue as you. Every time I have these type of dreams I wake up in such excruciating pain that most of the time I throw up from it. The only thing that gives me the slightest sense of relief is climbing into the shower & letting the hot water pour over me until it passes. I do get the urge to go the bathroom as well.

I am so tired of going to doctors & hospitals because no one seems to be able to tell me anything. They tell me plenty of things it can't be but nothing it can. Yours is the first time I've come across someone that knows what I'm going through. Please, if you read this it would be so helpful if you would respond and tell me what you've learned, even if we just compare stories. I'm at my wits end with this and don't know what else to do.

Hi All,

It's comforting to see this thread. Like others have expressed, this issue seems perplexing to most doctors. I have an transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow, which will hopefully shed some light. Here's a bit about my symptoms:

I've been experiencing a sharp pain on my right side during orgasm for the past 3.5 months without fail. Then in the past two weeks I began to feel little bits of pain there randomly as well. Within the last week now it hurts to have sex (even before the orgasm). It feels like pushing on a bruise.

I'm worrying about ovarian cancer, since I've also been displaying symptoms more similar to that than a cyst. I'm going to go have the US sound tomorrow, a blood test, and see a different OBGYN.

I really hope that this issue will be as simply solvable as abstaining for a couple of weeks...

I only started experiencing this pain a year and a half ago. I am 39 yrs old. It started when i split from my partner and started masterbating. Never felt this pain before that. The pain is so bad i have came to the conclusion i will stop masterbating untill i find out what is causing this excrutaiting pain. Quite sad really as i dont often masterbate. Lets hope they eventually find the answer cause something that is supposed to be so pleasurable is causing so much pain. What a horrible contradiction ladies.

Update:

The ultrasound was clean. I went to another doctor and he said it was a "vascular issue". Didn't really explain it much more than that, except he said that this was common and "normal". He said that hopefully birth control pills will solve it. If not a shot every three months of progestin. The one thing that frustrates me that I keep hearing over and over again (and it seems that others hear as well) is that this just might be "part of who I am." I don't think it's acceptable to have to live with this pain and I wish that doctors would recognize that as well, instead of adopting a laissez faire attitude towards the situation....

Hi ladies!

I am 51 and am having the same/similar symptoms you are experiencing, ie, a strain or pulling-type feeling while reaching an orgasm.  I just went for my annual check-up today with my gyn and I asked him about this.  He said there is nothing to worry about and there is nothing that can be done.  In fact, he said he stopped doing any workups for it since nothing has been found.  Basically its a spasm that we will encounter sometimes and he says he's had other patients with the same symptoms that seem to come and go intermittently.

The good news is that it doesn't seem to be anything serious and that hopefully it will only come and go occasionally.  Good luck, ladies!

You know, this is what I am tired of hearing most of all: Its nothing to worry about. I'm sorry, but when I wake up from a dead sleep with excruciating pain that debilitates me for at least 30 minutes and I'm throwing up from the pain, I'm not comfortable with the answer that its nothing to worry about.  This is something that is affecting the quality of my life and I don't care if they think its normal or not, I don't like it! I don't want to ever have to experience it again. I don't think some of these doctors understand or care just how painful these episodes are. But to dismiss them as a normal part of life is ludicrous. You are supposed to care about someone's quality of life when you take up this profession so when you see someone that is suffering this pain when about to achieve orgasm, I'd say that's a pretty big damper on a major part of every woman's life. Time to start caring, time to start doing something about it.

lmarr, I'm sorry you're having difficulty with these symptoms - I really am. Fortunately, my symptoms are mild at this time and hopefully will either stay mild or go away altogether. I don't blame you for feeling frustrated and I do hope your symptoms ease up for you. Another thing my gyn suggested was to try different positions and see if that helps. He basically stated that what his other patients and myself are experiencing are spasms that may come and go. I had asked him if there was anything I could do to avoid them and like so many other women who have written their stories, I was basically told no and that there was nothing I could do to alleviate it. He had other patients with the same symptoms and did the workups/testing as the other ladies had done and nothing was found to be wrong which is a good thing. I'm glad its nothing serious but I do feel for you, lmarr and I hope yours and the other ladies' symptoms are only temporary and they get better for you. Good luck.

Okay, so another update a couple weeks later. Abstinence from orgasms for a month did not help. The sharp pain on my right side during orgasm is still there. I also get a dull pain my lower right abdomen every now and then. My lower back (right side) has also been bothering me a lot. As the doctor suggested I started birth control, so far no changes.

I've also been to 3 acupuncture appointments. She is treating me in a much more holistic fashion. She is working on my inguine muscle as well as some others in the area such as my ITband. The artery that is on my lower right pelvis might be getting squeezed or something from a tight Inguine muscle do to sitting incorrectly to often.

I'm going to also see a chiropractor.... Oy.... I just hope I can figure this out. It'll take persistance. This is not something normal nor is it something we should just live with.

Kickboxer- I didn't mean for this post to be directed at you, I apologize if you felt that. Its just yours happened to be the last of many that I read that told of a doctor that considered these symptoms normal and unfortunately, will probably not be the last. And although your symptoms may be on the milder side, as many other ladies on this site can attest to, they can be a whole lot worse. I am glad that you have not experienced the full wrath and havoc that these episodes can wreak on your life & hopefully you never will. I have been going through this off and on for 5 years now and have only just turned 30. I have gone through plenty of tests myself and while some may think its a good thing not to find anything wrong, I, myself, would prefer they did find something. Then I would finally have an answer to what is plaguing me and even if there were no cure or treatment I would at least know. Because the fact is I know somethings wrong even if they aren't able to tell me what it is. Pain is the body's way of telling you something is wrong and mine is practically screaming it.
Hopefully, more awareness will come of this issue and more will work to find a cause & treatment and/or cure. I honestly thought that I was the only one or one of very few that experienced this type of problem and just knowing that I am not alone makes me feel a bit better. It does seem, however, that it is not being taken seriously enough and it is much more widespread than is recognized.

I'm 23, and I have had the same pain for a couple of years now.  Mine starts after ovulation and before menstruation.  I talked to my gyn, and he told me matter-of-factly that he believed it was endometriosis.  He said it made sense because the lesions enlarge the closer I get to my period.  He put me on six months of lupron depot suspension therapy, and after a couple of weeks, the pain was completely gone.  After my six months, I immediately started birth control pills, hoping to maintain the suspension of the pain, but to no avail.  I'm getting the pain back even sooner than ovulation now.
