On 3/5/12 I had a car accident which broke both legs (open fractures on both femurs and much more) and I started physical therapy in which I worked out 2 hours a day 3 times a week. I lost no weight. About two weeks ago I had my doc swap me to OxyContin and I have already lost 15 lbs and I'm still in a wheelchair and can't walk. If I can lose that much weight that fast exercising only the upper half of my body I feel it's safe to say methadone is the culprit. My doctor agrees. It doesnt mean you are supposed to be that big but your habit made u smaller. My habit kept me the same weight until I introduced methadone. To some it is a life saver and to others it's a demon. It had such a bad effect on my body I had to go to testosterone replacement therapy at age 24 because I would never get erections and couldn't even get one with female stimulation. After I thought about all the effects I was suffering I said to hell with it and swapped. Now I get frequent erections daily as normal for a 26 year old male and the testosterone levels are rising on their own which has as much to do with weight loss or gain as metabolism in men. Low T causes fat gains, muscle loss, depression, no labido, low self esteem and many other side effects. So men think hard before starting methadone whether it's treatment, pain managent, or even abuse. If giving up your entire sex life sounds ok go for it. I have numerous friends who went through methadone treatment and 100% described the same side effects sexually that I did, however, not all gained as much weight as I. The average was around 25-30 lbs.

I have an inoperable brain condition. In January I finally found a good pain management doctor who has developed a holistic plan for me and I am doing better than I have in years. (pain wise that is) I started taking methadone in January of this year and I now weigh 255 pounds. I don't know what to do. I don't want to be in pain again, but I can't walk, or climb stairs. I develop horrible rashes where my fat hangs over my stomach. Now I am having trouble with incontinence. Does the weight go down when you get off the med?
I was switched to moraphine for my pain, so the withdraw wasn' too bad!!! But, they did have to give me withdraw medications with te moraphine... methadone is THAT BAD!!!
i have been on methadone for 2 years now & have gained at least 50 lbs. i have always had a butt & hips but never a tummy! even my arms are a little bigger. this is the biggest i've ever been & i'm struggling with my body confidence. i got boobs out of it, but if i only have boobs being chunky then i would rather go back to smaller ones. i am now on 30 mgs and switching to subs soon. i really hope that getting off this c**p will once & for all help me lose the weight i gained!
^^ also.. it gave me cravings for ice cream. at one point i was eating a reeses mcflurry a day! the sad part is i started the methadone 2 months after i had my son. so i was gaining weight after i had lost my baby weight. depressing
