I agree with Scott. I had a foot fusion. Unfortunately, it didn't take. Now after four surgeries I will probably get my foot amputated. There is too much risk DO NOT DO IT

Hi....I had to have the surgery after I had a lifranc fracture actually multiple surgeons said its the worst they have ever seen even an ex surgeon for the steelers would come near my foot it was that horrible ..my first surgery which was simply screws did nothing at all but cause too much pain and on top of that the. Doc severed nerves so a year later I had to get the bone fusion and it made it to where I could walk but I can't lay down for too long sit for too long or stand for too long and walking makes its seem like I'm breaking it all over again the sad thing is my bones are not fused and its been since 2013 so I have to keep my fusion forever but the first doc was right in your case the fusion will make it better to walk and feel more stable because before I had mines I couldn't take a step without feeling the broken bones move and like my foot would collapse under me.

I feel like my life is completely ruin certain stuff I can't do and not to mention all the weight I've gained anyway I know this is a rant lol I havent been able to talk about it really to anyone sorry ....but I hope you make a full recovery and if at any moment you start to question your doctors care get a second and third opinion before anything else drastic is done

Hi. I had a midfoot fusion and a lisfranc repair as well in December 2015. This is my third surgery and I was cleared to start walking but am in a tremendous amount of pain still. Doctor won't write me anymore pain medication and it's like even PT isn't working. I don't want to walk and it's just so painful!!!! Anyone else have this kind of problem or should I make sure everything is okay? The pain is inside my ankle and in my acchellies heel. I am so discouraged right now! Please help!

It seems everybody is different and it's dependent on your doctor, your recovery progress and the exact surgery you had. I had mid foot fusion with cadaver graft and bunionectomy 8 weeks ago yesterday. I was non weight bearing in a cast for 6 weeks. At that point I went into a boot and with the help of crutches I'm working at partial weight bearing. I think within another week or two I will be full weight bearing without the crutches, but that's in my boot. I have no idea when I will wear regular shoes or attempt to walk barefoot. I've not had any PT and the doctor will determine if I need it at the ten week mark, but he thinks not. I've had very little pain and was pretty much off pain meds around ten days but I didn't really need them that long.

Are you in a boot? Where are you feeling the pain? The other two surgeries did t take?

I had a triple fusion for flat feel and a fusion for the metatarsal plus an Achilles' tendon lengthening 4 weeks ago. Not slot of pain- maybe a couple days worth. A nerve block in the main leg artery helped with that and 4 days of pain pills. That was it. In a cast and I keep my leg elevated. Next step will be a walking boot soon but expect 3 months of non-weight bearing. I heard good things about this surgery from 2 others that I know who have had it by the same doctor and hospital. I also got a second opinion and tried supports and orthodic before making this decision. Time will tell on my own personal outcome but u remain positive.

Hello all
I'm 3 weeks in post op from mid foot fusion 1 and 2 metatarsal. I had no idea how depressing this surgery would be. I had my surgery May 6, 2016. Today I'm just sitting around with my fifth cast due to the pain in my foot. First week was horrible vey painful. Had several different castings due to the staples/ sutures on top and side of my right foot that continued to be pushed into cast which made it very uncomfortable. I have a excellent doctor but I was not prepared for being in so much pain and a deep depression. At this point I have another 5 weeks to go and then I'm going to beg for a air cast as theses fiberglass cast are horrible. So far I have been on a knee scoot. But very difficult to leave the house. I'm used to traveling with my children every weekend now I can't do anything but sit around and read and watch television. I'm 12 weeks post a mid foot fusion. I'm weight bearing, but at a very slow pace. I used to be incredibly active. Now all I feel I'm doing is trying to control the swelling. How are you doing now?

Do you still post here?

Hello fellow foot surgery survivors!
I had a minor accident 4 weeks ago on my motorbike which trapped my foot between the bike and the road. I had a very large swelling on the side of my foot - just next to my cuneiform on the inside of my right foot.
By the time I got to A&E the swelling had spread evenly over my whole foot. I had an X-ray and was diagnosed with a broken middle toe. I was sent away, told to ice, elevate and walk on it as much as I felt I could. I had massive brusing and the swelling extended half way up my shin.
After 2 weeks I went to outpatients fracture clinic, where after an X-ray and CT scan was kept in for surgery! I had broken my Medial Cuneiform, chipped my Navicular bone and torn the ligament at the top of my inside Metatarsal.
The surgeon said before the op that he didn't really know what he would do until he opened my foot up. The outcome was a single screw fusing my Medial and Intermediate Cuneiforms together. He said once that had been done everything else pulled back nicely together.
So I'm 4 weeks since the accident and two weeks since the surgery. I'm in a half cast with a reasonable amount of movement, The wound was checked my my local nurse last week and looked pretty clean. I too have a large 7/8 cm wound down the middle of my foot with a 3/4 cm on the inside of my foot - I guess where the screw went in.
I have had 'icepick' pains and still have not got all of the feeling back above my big toe and the next one along. Generally I have little pain and only take paracetamol at night if required. It does throb like mad as soon as I put my foot down. I hoped that might have eased by now.
I have a knee walker - which is great. So much better than crutches. I'm back to the hospital tomorrow for a check up. I'm no weight baring and have my foot elevated almost all the time! Very boring!
For reference My name is Peter I live in Dorset, I'm 57 in good shape and previous to the accident was very active. It's very interesting to know about other peoples experiences in our situation,

Thank you for a nice detailed response very helpful for me - I have a long way to go, only 4 1/2 weeks out for 2 mid foot fashions and to straighten a claw foot. and in air boot and crutches, 50 percent weight bearing until at least 6 months. My husband and I had planned a two week trip to Florida, cruise is part of this. I am scared to go, but staying in isolation at home is driving me crazy. Has anyone tried airline travel 5 1/2 weeks out? Can I do anything to reduce swelling and relieve nerve jolts. Sometimes it feels like someone is pulling a thread tight that runs thru the top of my foot down to my toe. Any one else experience this? When will I be able to play pickle Ball?
