Hi, I am a 43 year-old female who suffered from cystic acne in the past year. I have been taking 100mg of minocycline twice a day since August 2014. I'm happy to say I am finally acne free!!! It was at least 3 months before I saw an improvement

I'm just finishing up my last week of minocycline. I was on 100mg twice a day and finally 3 months later my skin is perfect and I'm so pleased! Minor side effects for me have been increased headaches and loss of appetite for the first two weeks but other than that it's been great.

why do you want to have children and pass on the acne?

Everyone worrying about it not working, you just need to wait - yes you may have side effects in the first few weeks eg diarrhea but these will most likely go away if you stay patient (obviously if very severe and you don't think it's worth it then it is up to you to quit or not) - When i started on it in October 2014 I was told by my doctor that after 4 months 60% of people will see improvement, and after 6 months 80% will be getting the benefits (I don't know which papers the figures were pulled from but the info is out there) - so I waited, and waited... For maybe 3 months afterwards I was still suffering bad breakouts on my back and face and had to just keep covering up with makeup. But i really did see such an improvement and now my skin is clearer than it has been in years, almost as clear as when I was a child! Now I am wondering though, how do I come off it? I'm a bit worried about my teeth getting that greyish stain, and about my liver and thyroid function (I am also hypothyroid since October of last year - so probably not triggered by the Mino but could be being affected by it) - anybody care to share their story about coming off it?

My doctor prescribed this to me, I started today and she mentioned that for the first few weeks that yes, your acne will tend to appear worse than it is but after that it will start to clear up, she said that suffering for a few weeks is better than having constant acne for longer.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, Preston! I'm a Dental Hygienist and I was going to say the same thing-tooth discoloration only happens to children, or it may occur to a fetus if a pregnant woman is taking minocycline during pregnancy. I think "Guest" is a troll.

Hello, To al the people looking at this. Minocycline doesn't have arthritis in any side effects. This could be something different. I do believe your the only person suffering from it.

I am 14. after suffering for around a year or 2 with acne basically non-stop i tried Minocycline. a huge factor to why i began the tablet was because my pimples started getting sore, painful to touch and more irritated , i began the tablet as well as the tropical cream (but the tropical cream had bad side effects towards me so i stopped it for now). The minocyline has almost cleared all of my acne over 3 months and within a couple of weeks i am stopping it to see if it will permanently keep the acne away. the only time i now have a bad breakout is usually when i am on my period. I only now experience 1 or 2 pimple breakouts whereas i use to have huge breakouts on my cheeks and forehead. I definitely recommend trying minocycline the only bad thing i found about it was you had to limit sun exposure. i am much more confident and happier with my skin.
