Mirena, trouble with intercourse

Update its been a while now and my husband is no longer complaining about the strings. I was told by the Dr that she couldnt cut them any shorter or she wouldnt be able to remove it later. Well she also told me they needed time to soften up a little because they can be stiff in the beginning. No more problems except light spotting and the cramps have got way lighter too. Overall I am happy with it.

My wife got it 5 months ago. In the beginning everything was fine but now I have been feeling the thread a lot. Yesterday we were intimate for a very long time and now the head of my penis hurts and it actually looks swollen!!! And the skin around it is also very hurtful..... Wanted to ask you about how long did it take for your boyfriend to feel better?

My wife has been on this for some time now; second go around, and we didn't have any issues with it the first time. But now, good god! I had been complaing that it felt like I was being rubbed raw. Our thinking was entry, then lube, but we've found that this not to be the case.

Several times I've had to obstain so that I could gave my boy time to recover. It had been a week since our last time, and my stuff was feeling much better; still a little tender, but better, so why not. Well I was wrong, tonight my stuff was completley swollen, and not in a good way.

What she and I have found is this. The string; due to our activites has become kinked up. Think about it, take fishing twine and contiunally roll it up in a ball, and look at what you have left. Now, would you want to rub your stuff on that? There you go!

Talk to your Dr and have them go back in and remove the string and add another; hopefully a softer one like dental floss and that should take care of the problem. I know that my writting may seem comical, but I can tell you this, I have been in great pain all afternoon, and as I sit her and write this to you now.

Oh and one last thing. Birth Control, yeah it works alright, you'll not want to go back up in there if you're getting cut up.

I have this very same problem this my second rime trying mirena first time was horrible and way worse than this go round not only is it painful to him it hurts me aswell

hi, okay i am having the same problems my boyfriend says its very painful and kida makes him not wanna have sex with me, ive had it for 5 months and i havent had any problems with it other then this, i havent had my strings cut but i stuck my finger in and genrly pushed them up and out of the way and that was 3 months ago so it has worked, it was so painful when they put it in because i have a tiny uterus and have never had a kid.

Don't let these previous stories stop you. Everyone is different, and your body might experience something completely different. I have had Mirena for a couple of months and I love it. I would never remember to take the pill the same time, and often times it was inconvenient to get a condom so an IDU seemed most reasonable. I don't feel it, and it hasn't hurt me at all. My boyfriend and I are also pretty rough. I will tell you he can sometimes feel it, but that it doesn't hurt him. The best thing is to talk to your doctor and see what they say.

well folks i had mine in for 2 years and i cant have no sex cuz he can feel the string i had it cut so far that now i have to get it surgical remove and he can still feel the string

I've had mine for over 6 yrs and my partner has always been able to still feel the "strings" although he seems to think he feels the actual device, however I think that's impossible as it is located on my cervix and he should not be able to reach that far, regardless of his penis size.

Im having same problem my wife has had it for a month now and every time we have sex i feel it poking me and after im done , it bothers me and also has changed my sexual desire cause its  doesnt feel good poking me .

My girlfriend and I started having sex and I noticed it when I was thrusting. I didn't think to much of it until she was on top when on times I would feel the needle like sensation others claim. At some points it can just be a distractions at others it can be a moment stopped. On occasion I would just secretly readjusted to do another position. When she was on top she noticed my discomfort and we talked. I thought she claimed to be on a nuvaring but I guess I got the name mixed up. I offered a condom but she didn't want me to us one (odd normally it's the guy who doesn't want to use a condom{or so that's what people claim}). My girlfriend is going to get the string trimmed I hope it will help, I will try to post the result later. Hope this helps someone.

Gang, this can cause severe consequences to a guy. A year ago I had sex with a woman where I got poked by the string on deep thrusts. Woke up the next morning with significant pain. That turned into a serious infection (not STD), and either the trauma of the poking or the infection led to a recurring urethral stricture (scar tissure buildup in the urethra) that has required three surgeries in one year. Definitely not fun.

Yes, Ive had Mirena 2 years now. I havent had a period since the first month I got it.. My doc told me the same thing when I got it, and its true unless you have complications.

My partner thinks the same thing. I think that if it slipped out, I would feel intense pain. I got it put in about a month ago. He complains about " hitting against something hard". I did see small cuts in his skin. The whole thing caused an argument (I even showed him a pic of the female anatomy).

I was aware of the female side effects, but didn't know this was possible. If we have to start using a condom again, then what's the purpose of even having an IUD. I just can't imagine going through all that pain again to replace it!! Birth control pills are no longer an option for me.

I have has the marina since may 2009 the first year wasn't bad. They I started getting extreme pain during sexual intercourse sometimes and other the same pains after. I don't have insurance so i just left it alone. Then it started getting worse a few month ago now not only i have the pains but many time i will bleed(no matter what time of month). i have never bled alot not even on my heaviest periods. So bleeding this much when i am not even close to that time of month scares me. It don't happen every time and it does go away but it scares me.I still don't have insures and don't know what to do. I just hope this don't affect me having kids in the future. I live in St. Louis, Missouri
