You aren't supposed to have sex until two weeks after insertion, otherwise it is very likely you will get pregnant

My dr said the strings get softer over time & can wrap around the cervix so they are more flat

My wife had one put in, and I could feel something sharp and painful poking me pretty much every time and in any position - which wasn't too many because we had it removed a week or two later. There were other reasons why she didn't like it. For me sex was no longer fun.

Would not recommend.

This is the start of my 5th yr using the coil and second one in, first one I had I was in incredible pain for the first 2 days or so but I rarely had a period and sex was good still didn't notice it. However when I had it replaced I found out that the strings were cut 2 short and the dr had trouble getting it out had to have a scan to make sure it was still there. They put the new one in and ever since sex has been a problem causing my husband pain't every time I hope this don't last to much longer as it's the only contraceptive that's worked

I had my mirena in for close to a month after an abortion. Majority of that month I could "feel" it, my hair started shedding more than normal, and I would be cramping constantly especially after I masturbated or had sex. My uterus contracts after orgasms, go figure. The first time I had sex with my SO after insertion he could feel "something" even though I hadn't told him about the strings yet. The second time was a few days ago he couldn't finish, nor could I because the strings left visible marks on the head and shaft of his penis, similar to rope burn or rash and we had to stop. I pulled it out myself today because I couldn't handle the cramps after I masturbated anymore, I like to do it a lot... and often. I have never felt more relief, no more strange pain while sitting, no more orgasmic cramps. The strings themselves may be made of some kind of nylon but they are much thicker than hair. TRUST YOUR BODY! A doctor will repeat to you the c**p they have memorized in some pamphlet, its important to know what feels right to you not what's been clinically tested among small populations. Not everything is right for everyone. I'm sad because I loved the idea of what the mirena could do for me... but I love being happy and healthy much more.

I have my mirena for 6 months now, insertion was uncomfortable but not painful. I did experience bleeding for almost 3 months straight but now I don't have my period anymore, which is awesome. I do experience some bleeding after sex but nothing major. I have not had any side effects besides the problem with my husband being able to feel the IUD during certain positions. He says its not painful but he can feel the strings.

Yes us men can feel the ends of the sting and it hurts, I call it the carrot peeler. Like what the heck! Do they singe the end of the string to keep it from fraying? This is a real problem for us men. Thank you to our partners for trying.

I too am not liking the idea of a mirena after reading everything. What method are you planning to use after?
