I have had the mirena for 5 years and never had a problem until I had a new one put in.. My husband said he felt the string so I had it trimmed. The dr. claimed this would solve the problem but he still feels something in certain
positions during sex. Im going back to the dr. to see what it is. The second insertion was very painful for me. I almost
fainted. Ive had 2 kids and never had that much pain. I might get it removed but I love not getting a period. I have also
been depressed and gained 10 lbs. After reading everyones comments Im starting to wonder if its the IUD.

I've had it for about a month. I wish I had done more research.  Insertion was the worst pain I have ever felt.  The doctor had trouble opening my cervix due to prior surgery.  Since then, i've had a BV infection along with the thick clumpy brown discharge others have mentioned (probably brown b/c i'm still spotting everyday).  Not too much cramping anymore but I go through 2 panty liners everyday.

My partner complains about the strings pricking him (felt like needles) but Dr insinuated that my partner needed to get checked out b/c there was "no way he could be feeling them".   I'm in a monogamous relationship for 10 years.  (Not to say it's impossible that he could be cheating, but highly unlikely.)  She also didn't want to cut the strings b/c she thought they would be too short.

Now, sex for both of us is uncomfortable.  Immediately afterwards I have pretty intense pain that subsides after about 20 min.  Reluctant to take it out due to the amount of pain I went through to get it in and also the cost. Maybe i haven't given it enough time.

The drug makers make you sign a form acknowledging the potential risks, but BV was never mentioned, nor were the sexual repercussions.  I agree that we all need to start reporting these side effects to the FDA, lord knows the physicians aren't passing this info along!

There are two ways to report it:  Reporting by Consumers (online) or Reporting by Physicians

My experience on the guy side of this IUD has been horrible.  I thought I was crazy and imagining the pain of being pricked the first few times after she had it put in.  Then one day afterwards I saw red pin-prick like marks on me and knew I wasn't crazy.  Her doc checked things out and trimmed it up and since then it's been better but it is still far from good, mostly if she's sitting/standing and always with any vigor.  Why even bother to put hormones in this IUD?  As it stands now (or for that matter, doesn't stand %-)), the string alone acts as birth control enough, for me at least.  I'd certainly not recommend this thing and wish I never crossed paths with it.

I'm so glad I found this! My boyfriend has been complaining that my IUD keeps randomly poking him right in the urethra & hurts like hell. Said it feels like a piece of metal but I've assured him its jot possible. I went to my Dr & had the position checked & it was fine. He wants me to get it taken out but I've still got 9 months before I have to take it out (5yrs almost up) but I'm scared to do so bc we are both very fertile and I have 1 child & he as 2. I love him dearly & we want to get married but I'm just not sure I'm ready for that. I planned on taking it out & putting another rightback in. Any suggestions? I can't take birth control pills, gotten pregnant on the patch & ring bc I'm horrible at remembering the most important things....

I''ve had my IUD for just over 5 weeks. For someone who experienced life ending cramps during my period, the mirena is a God sent. For me the side effects is worth it. My skin broke out and my husband complained about the strings, still happy about it though.

FYI Look up Mirrena, it's a hard plastic and many complications in women; moving out of it's place, lodgeing it self and causing many other pain/death complications. I felt a hard pain during intercourse, like a sprung whip had hit my penis, up to date, it feels off.

Hi, i had my Mirena put in about 4 montgs ago after my econd child was born. Ever since then i have been having the worse migraines, hair lose, weight lose, and extremely exhausted. Now i am goingg through what you all are going through. I do have a ssmall Uterus as well as a small cervix. I have a small body frame. My fiance has always hit my cervix while having sex, and now its just wore since i got the Mirena put in. Its always poking him and it gave him some tyoe of rash at one point on the side of his penis just above the rim of zhis head. I find it to be weird since the string isnt that long. Bbut now he is still complaining more about the poking since its jabbing himin the hole of his penis. He dont have any rash markings but in the sme area of where the rash was, just under the surface of the skin he finds it to be really itchy. Its like if some Thing is healing idk....please help

I am now 5 months post insertion. We switched back to using condoms for a couple months to avoid the poking. Now, without condoms, my partner no longer complains. When I ask specifically if he is experiencing the pokes, he says no (not sure if he's just trying to avoid conflict). TamSie, I hope it gets better for you also. I suggest using condoms again until the string softens.

Hey! Sooo... yea I just got the IUD in and my boyfriend has said that he can feel it poking him too. He's pretty big so it wasn't that big of a surprise to me that he would. It really depends on positions, just pick ones where he's not going too deep... or if he doesn't care forget about it :P

I have had Mirena for 4 years next week and my husband has been complaining of being poked since it was first inserted. he stated the same thing last night. He says as I have read over and over again here that it feels like needles stabbing his penis. When I went to my doctor about this three and a half years ago she sent me for anoter ultrasound to ensure the placement was correct and then informed me that she couldn't cut the strings any shorter then the manufacturers guidelines. My husband and I (Okay mostly him) have succumbed as it's better then having another baby.

did you ever figure out how to stop the pain? I have this too! it feels like he's going "too deep" but we were always fine and I was fine with vigorous sex before the mirena. I cant seem to figure out how to have sex like before! Its quite frustrating and my bf says he's always worried about hurting me
