Totally in the same boat. My 4th baby is 5 months old. Got a period New Years day and one exactly a month later. Now nothing. My hubby got the big "V" and we have been using condoms. But I am the most fertile person alive and have gotten pregnant with my 3rd while breastfeeding. With BIG FAT POSITIVE before I stopped peeing! I swore I would never take a pregnany test again!

I have a 13 month girl old who is still breastfeeding and I've had my period since she was 10 months old, three times already. Now I'm about a week overdue and no signs or symptoms of anything really. She was sick this past week and teething lately so I think maybe more on the breast than usual. Maybe this is why my period didn't come?? As someone posted above, I guess it's possible to miss periods or have irregular periods while breastfeeding. I hope so because I'm definitely not ready for a 3rd baby. It's good to know that I'm not the only one out there worried about this stuff!
Good luck to all!

Hey all, I came to this board when I was experiencing very much the same as all of you. A normal period for 3 months and then when my daughter was 7 months old I was late. I'm very regular, but also very fertile and I was concerned I would be having a fourth even though we used condoms all month!! I took a test when I was 7 days late and it was negative, I didn't end up getting my period until I was 10 days late. Very strange for me, I've never been that late and not been pregnant. . Two weeks later I had another light period, very strange, about 3 days and light as opposed to my normal 7 day one and then about 5 days later I believe I ovulated as my normal signs for that was showing. So all that to say, anything can happen in those breastfeeding months- you could be fertile at any time and you could be late without being pregnant at any time. This is my third baby and I've never been this irregular. I say all this to calm some fears that some of you may be having. If the test says negative and you are more than a few days late, believe it!

Please guys we need feedback here, as I too am in the same situations at the moment. 7 month old son, breastfeeding every 3rd or 4th night depending on his mood of course. Got period last month, no birth control, sexually active and one accidental no protection event. Spoke to gynae and he said that it is quite possible, but the on and off breastfeeding could affect the fact that I am 10 days late. Isn't there anyone who has a response to these

Ok, weird...I nursed my son 23 months. I weened him right before I had heart surgery. No nursing for a week, did get a period, and then wala...he wanted to nurse again, and I was too weak. I caved! He's been nursing a few times a day (like for naps and night time) and I got my second period. Then next month...no period. Freaking out! Do feel at times like I'm going to start, and don't I am officially 3-5 days late...can't remember, but I am on the dot regular. Wonder if it's possible to skip a month. I am 38, soon to be 39. Also, wondered when I start up again, does your body continue the same cycle? Like if I was suppose to start the 1st week in Aug., and miss it, will I just skip that month and start in Sept.? Or could I start later in Aug???

Hi, Wow didn't know so many people had the same problem. Surely it must be normal! I have a 3 month old boy, whom im still breastfeeding and have pretty much had my period from day dot. I have had 2 periods and thats that, now im worried because I havn't had a period in a while They were a little irregular but I thought that was normal because with my first son I had them every 2 weeks after he was born for 3 months util they became regular. This post is so weird! I am in exactly the same boat. My son is 10 months old. I have had 2 periods and this month was supposed to be my third. I have always been very very regular. Even when my period came back it was every 28 days. I am breastfeeding, but no night breastfeeding and my son eats a lot of solid food. I know that I was ovulating last month (I can always tell just by the way I feel that day) I am now 2 weeks late. I have taken over 6 pregnancy tests and nothing ... all negative. Yesterday I had some slight abdominal pain like menstrual pain but no bleeding. I woke up today and still no bleeding. The pain yesterday lasted maybe 30 minutes and was very slight. I don't want to take another test because they are so expensive and I am just so frustrated at all of them saying I am not pregnant.
Has anyone found out??? Is it possible to be pregnant and for the test to give a negative?
Or is it possible to be breastfeeding, have your period for a few months and then to skip???
I am waiting until tomorrow to take another test ... That will be 3 days since my last test. I have had periods of nausea but very slight. My other pregnancy was almost nausea free however ...
I just want to know what is going on.

Hi Everyone
I myself am going through the same thing and just came across this website that will help answer your concerns. Basically your period can come and go while breastfeeding.

Menstruation and Breastfeeding
Almost anything is considered normal when it comes to your periods while breastfeeding. All women experience a time of postpartum bleeding following birth which is not considered a menstrual period. If bottle-feeding, most mothers will have their first real period not long after this. Breastfeeding, however, suppresses menstruation at least for a while. For some mothers, there may be an absence of menstruation for weeks, months, and even years while still breastfeeding. Some mothers will even need to completely wean before they see their first period. Others, once their babies begin taking supplemental foods or sleeping longer periods at night, will see the first period. Once menstruation returns it may continue to be irregular during lactation. It's not uncommon to have a shorter or longer than normal period while breastfeeding. It's also not abnormal to skip a period or see the first period return and then find that months pass before the next one.

I just saw my dr today because I'm in this same situation. My son is 15 months and still nursing, but only 2-3 times/day (morning, naptime, bedtime). My period came back when he was 11 months old and it repeated regularly for three more months. Then I missed last month all together but six pregnancy tests all said negative. (I really wanted to be pregnant again!) My dr said what two of the ladies above mentioned - that anything is "normal" when you are breastfeeding, so yes your period can start and then stop again. I'm guessing from the lack of follow-up posts that no one else above was pregnant. I don't think I am, either :-( but I will post again if the bloodwork shows otherwise... Best wishes to everyone!

I am breast feeding my 11 month old daughter. My period was regular up until 2 months ago it was late. I took two pregnancy tests a weeks apart, and both were negative. I read this discussion and at the time decided that my period must have stopped and I wasnt pregnant. I had had some mild nausea and nipple soreness but nothing more. However my belly has continued to grow and I went to the obstetrician 5 days ago and had an ultrasound which showed a 5 week pregnancy. I have to go back soon to see if its an 8 week old pregnancy and the embryo died or My period was late because I was really ovulating and the tests were negetive because the baby was only days old.
Im pretty sure that I just ovulated 2 weeks later, my body just played a trick on me!!! Im feeling sicker everydayso im pretty sure this little one is alive.
My advice is if you feel pregnant you might be, go and get a blood test or an ultrasound.
