I have been on Cymbalta for about 8 months. I have had no side effects and have lost about 40lbs in 3 1/2 months. My psychiatrist added Welbutrin because the "HAPPY" just wasn't there for me. But..... Since day one of taking Welbutrin I have not been able to sleep even with prescription sleeping meds. And I can not stop eating!!!!! I eat everything in sight. Whole bags of chips at a time, candy like crazy(and I don't normally like sweets).
I was just wondering if anyone else has had these side effects. My Dr just says its because I'm finally feeling better but I know it's more than that!!! I eat even when I really don't want too.

I have heard some people have terrible experiences with topomax. Mine has been great. No side effects to speak of except bad taste in my mouth.  I have been on cymbalta for a year to replace wellbutrin which I had been on for years.  wellbutrin hurt my stomach so I switched to cymbalta.  after weight gain of about 25lbs I decided cymbalta was not for me.  wellbutrin controlled my depression and did not have the weight gain side effect that cymbalta and other AD's with SSRI's in them do.  The topomax is to help me lose the weight from the cymbalta. I lost 60lbs years ago taking topomax.  Withdrawals from cymbalta are HELL!! going back on Wellbutrin is no fun either.  The adjustment just takes time.  Cymbalta withdrawals are just what people abouve have said.  bad flu symptoms, headache, nausea, depression, zaps not in my head but in my joints, muscle pain.  getting adjusted to Wellbutrin is nausea, itching, dizziness, pressure in my ears.  These will go away with time.  I've taken it before. But for now I am miserable and cry alot.  I am very depressed.  My doctor has given me Prozac to help ease the withdrawals.  I just started taking it so I look forward to relief.  I really hate cymbalta!  I feel toward cymbalta like you feel toward topomax.

that is very different than my experience of those two drugs. Opposite actually. I gained weight on cymbalta and lost on wellbutrin. Sleep is an issue on wellbutrin. I was on it for 10 years before. It never got better. I could sleep if I took different things like melotonin, chamomile, advil pm, sleep doctor. whatever and keep switching it up. I am not sure why but not taking the same sleep med every night really helped.

I have been on welbutrin xl (450) for several years. Just added cymbalta 3 months ago. I also take depakote (1500). I am bipolar, and have fibromyalgia. I've been on many different cocktails of meds over the last 17 years, and since adding the cymbalta I feel like I am "waking up" from the fibro fog and residual fog of chronic depression. Widespread fibro pain has lessened, but I've had an increase in localized pain- from degenerative arthritis in my knees, lower back, and c-spine. But so far, so good in the big picture..

I just recently stopped taking cymbalta about a week ago and started taking wellbutrin. I had flu like symptoms that lasted forever when withdrawaling, nausea, dizziness, head pressure, and all of the fibro pain is back and horrible. Coming off this med was one of the worst things Ive dealt with. It was awful to say the least. I wanted to get off Cymbalta bc of the weight gain, sluggishness I felt after taking it, and just making me feel blah. It worked so well for me at first and now im not sure if I made a mistake by coming off. I have lost weight, but my fibro pain is unbearable. Im hoping the wellbutrin will kick in and make me feel better but that has happened yet either. its only been one week. I know it doesnt have an indicator for pain so i feel like i may have to bite the bullet and get back on Cymbalta and maybe in combo with wellbutrin it will work the 2nd time around. I too hate Cymbalta at this point and that is the last thing I want to do is to start it again. It scares me that coming off a prescribed drug could be so so difficult. I think of it as poison that I dont want to put back in my body but may not have another choice. I am going to wait it out hopefully see if i can withstand the way ive been feeling since i came off for a few more weeks with just the wellbutrin but if not i guess will hope to try the two meds together.

I have noticed the fluttering in my heart.. I had no idea it may be caused by Wellbutrin. Thanks for the info... and I guess maybe your symptoms are from the Wellbutrin also.

Hi! I hope your still interested in this :o) I am a 51 yr old female who has been on every kind of anti-something since I was about 29 years old. I'd give up for a few years, then make an appointment when I realized I was spending too much time hiding in my house and not wanting to answer the phone. I can't tell you how many times my poor phone took blame for me the old 'battery must have died'. Anyway, after 4 days of crying I made an appointment with a new doctor. This wonderful doctor asked me why I hadn't been put on Adderall for my Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. ( new I had that but doctors always said they didn't think so) So I was put on that 10 mg 2x a day. Wellbutrin 150 XR, Cymbalta 30 mgs. and for the restless times, she put me on the lowest dose of Lorazapam. No medicine I had been given before sorted out the constant barrage of thoughts, which led to panic attacks, which led me to take Xanax and cry. This combo is the best I've tried. I'm 5' 8" and weighed 115 when I started these meds six months ago. I just weighed myself today, and I'm 117. And I am so happy. Well, I better not jix myself. I hope this helped you with your problem for your restlessness. I wish you all the luck in the world ;o)

I was taking Wellbutrin for a couple months in 2010 and quit because I too, noticed fluttering in my chest! I would have it approx once weekly and it scared me. I liked the Wellbutrin otherwise but what's up with the heart fluttering? I even went to a cardiologist and he ran a whole bunch of tests but everything came out negative.. I was only 39 when I was taking with no history of heart probs..

To those of you who have mentioned the use of Wellbutrin - I am currently on Wellbutrin and Topamax for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. I also have RA. I have only been on this mix for about 2 months or so, after requesting to come off Cymbalta/Lyrica because of MANY problems that combination was causing me.

I started at 150 on Wellbutrin XL, and have been on 300XL only for about 2 weeks. I seem to be doing ok, although I should tell you I do suffer from anxiety disorder and I have still had a few panic attacks (but I think they have lessened since starting on Wellbutrin). But I have noticed some heart fluttering once in awhile, and I can't recall if this happened before starting on the 300 or if it is new. My husband also suffers from anxiety disorder (he is bipolar and has MUCH worse anxiety than I could ever imagine) and he keeps telling me the flutters I'm having are just from my anxiety, but since I have read that Wellbutrin can cause heart flutters and palpitations, I'm a bit worried.

Any of you out there have any problems? Have you noticed any fluttering in your chest? Thanks for your help! :)

Wow, I can't believe that you can take topamax. That stuff was a nightmare for me. I have been prescribed everything imaginable over the years, but that one drug by far was in a catagory by itself. I worry about children that are prescribed that. I also worked with someone that was prescribed topamax and it did to her exaclty what it did to me. That stuff will freak a person out! I respnded to another post with how it made me feel. If it makes you feel any of those ways, I'd suggest that you get with your doctor and get off of that stuff. It ws the beginning of my demise, thank god that I am perfectly fine now. All I take is a low done blood pressure medication and they just added wellbutrin to my cymbalta, they may look at getting me off of cymbalta in a few weeks, we are just going to see how it goes. Good luck to you with your meds. But I'd be willing to bet that the topamax is the reason for the anxiety for sure.

What problems does the Cymbalta/Lyrica combo cause?

I don't have Fibromyalgia, per se, I have Chronic Pain Syndrome and severe depression along with a few other things.  I take Welbutrin in the morning and Cymbalta at night.  I also take Topamax twice a day.  For sleep in particular, I was prescribed Lunesta which is a good sleeping pill.  If you don't want to take a sleeping pill go to the vitamin section and get Melatonin.  It is naturally occuring in your body and works great.  Due to a broken back and Adult Tethered Cord Syndrome, I also take Kadian (which is a morphine supplement) and OxyIR.  Both are narcotics.

I've taken Cymbalta for years for fibromyligia and it really has helped me. Also there are very few side effects and so many with Lyrica. Please try Cymbalta I think you will be very pleased. They are not in the same category, study online or talk to your pharmacist.

I was only able to take Cymbalta for a few weeks. I had sexual side effects that I could not live with but everything else was great about it, it even helped with my chronic leg pain. I switched to Wellbutrin and even tho it's only been a week my pain has come back and I feel irritable, yet no sexual side effects. Has anyone else had this same issue and did taking both cancel out the sexual side effect for you? I'm wondering if it's even worth it to try..
