i an 29 years old and have been sufferring for these sort of spasums in the chest since i was 18, yes that is 11 years now, the drs first thought it was a blood clot getting close to the heart, , i have had billions of ECGs, xrays, ultrasounds, and everything else in between and still no real answer, they just keep telling me that its muscle spasums and that they will pass, more pain meds and then off home to deal with it , that was untill a a few weeks ago where i had what i call a flare up , thought that for sure i was having a heart attach, the dr in the emergancy department said nope he is pretty sure that its muscle spasums again ( still did all the tests he could though ) and that he thinks they are all stemmed from the size of my breast , so thats now something that i will be looking into so that hopefully they can get reduced and then the pain can go away

i have chest pain and it is really very bad. it starts 7 months ago then the pain goes to my back and to the muscle under my left arm. i went to many doctors and every things was normal. my osteopaths diagnosed my case as costochondritis whis the inflamation in the cartliages that link between the ribs and the sternum!!. there is no specific treatment except for the antiinflamatory which is helpe only for few hours.

Actually somewhat comforting to know I'm not alone, this problem has been with me for 8 years now. It first occured after picking up a heavy bag and throwing it across my shoulder. I felt a pull in my chest but no immediate pain, so I blew it off. Three hours later while driving on the road I began to experience what I thought was a heart attack. Pressure on the chest, shortness of breath, nausea, numbness on the left side all the symptoms of a heart attack. I went to closest emergency room. Of course with this going thru my mind my blood pressure shot up and they proceeded to give treatment to get the pressure down, nitro etc... every test was conducted with nothing found. Follow up with specialist yielded nothing. This muscle spasm seems to be a result of the pull/strain muscle that will never heal and each time it is aggrevated it happens all over again. Aggravation came come from strain or even anger which causes muscle tension. Muscle relaxers help but does not solve the problem, it appears we are stuck with this condition. Also don't shake hands too often in a day period as this will cause the reaction, which most of the time has a delay between 10 minutes to three days.
Im also suffering chest muscle pain now..and it really affects my breathing sometimes..kinda afraid at first because i thought it is a heart failure.when i consulted the doctor recently,he told me to do exercise by stretching my shoulders up and downward.I did it last time but its really painful that i cant resist.I dont really know what to do and im suffering it now in its 4th day.it sucks because it affects my job.I still work though im suffering the very painful muscle in my chest,.please help me with your advise,thank you!waiting for your reply...i really dont know what to do : (
27 years old and this chest mussel spasms has been in my life for more than 10 years now...
It affected my life like anything
The unbelivable pain
The red face
The sudden loss of breath
It feels like all the blood is in my head
It stuns me and for the next 5 to 10 minute it comes and goes depending on my movements.
I got this mussel spasm on my wedding day, meetings with clients, at work, driving and some times when I'm asleep (it wakes me my wife).
It could come at any second either when I carry a heavy box or some one tickles me or I when laugh alot or when I'm really angry.
My trick is always carry pain killers and when the twitch before the pain comes I just disappear in a bathroom place my back on a wall and lift the arm that the spasm is around all the way up
I also think it has something to do with cold weather because in the winter it's a lot worse
I have had muscle spasms throughout the torso for over a year and they are painful and disabling. I have seen many doctors since I get them on both sides of my back, under my ribs and throughout the stomach. The more active I am during the day the worse they are. I cannot lean over while sitting without something going into a spasm. I have trouble getting a good breath at times and become exhausted with very little exertion. I am seeing an expert in CA and hope to hae some relief.
I started having muscle spasms in my chest since I started to diet and eat much less and sleeping less at night. Not sure what start my chest pains but I had it 8-9 years ago. Once it was so intense that I thought I was getting a heart attack and I had to stop driving at the road side. The pain lasted quite long and I prayed hard not to die. For one thing, I did was I remember that if one were to have heart attack, one should start to cough hard really HARD and it seems to save lives. Since I thought i was having one, I did so and it helps to stop the pain......and though I don't have it often, I cough HARD until the pain goes away. I am still finding the cause of it but I believe lack of sleep and stress could be one of the factors. Hope this short remedy would help.
ECGs, Xrays, CT scan numerous blood tests....I am 37 have perfect 120/80 blood pressure, cyclist, physical job am very fit generally. Smoker for 14 years never heavy quit 5 years ago, dont drink or use recreational drugs.
Xrays have revealed clear clean lungs with good Vo max, good sized heart with no furring of the arteries.
Symptoms......constant heavy pain in chest, pain in left arm and back, suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and stress. Generally spend my life thinking I'm about to die even though there is a wealth of medical evidence to suggest my heart and health is fine. No family history of illness...relatives have all lived long lives....
Spent years in therapy having CBT...occasionally HAVE to take diazapam, 75mg of paracetamol each night.
Believe that I will be burdened with this problem always...although doctors say I am fine and have proved it to me part of me still believes there is a serious undiagnosed illness that will strip of my life the minute I begin pedalling my bike...or engage in any physical activity which increases my heart rate. Have recently had to abandon a bike ride and call paramedics after suffering a panic attack on bike...ECG at scene did reveal some odd readings which prompted the paramedics to take me to hospital and checked out...heart had calmed down by time I got there and electrical activity was considered normal...a few days later was back at hospital having a stress test and again all was normal. My mind is screwed up and not taking care of business correctly.
What can I do to begin believing that I am alright and live my life without fear?
You may need some medication for anxiety and/or panic attacks. Many times we begin exp these symptoms in our mid to late 30s for what we believe to be for no reason. But by taking medication for a few months your system readjusts and you can then cut back on them again. Our chemistry is a strange thing. Be safe and try all. Life is too short already without thinking it is always ending.
Even I have these similar chest pains / spasms, which happen suddenly. I am not clear with the reason. I had gone to the GP once and he did a check up asked me a few questions and had prescribed me a drug called CIPZOX.
It was very effective in removing the pain. But I do not know yet, the reason. It happens to me rarely, about 3-4 times since the last 4 years and CIPZOX has been magical everytime, in curing it in a few hours.
I am not clear with the reason though, as it happens suddenly, sometimes even when I am sleeping.
When I was 21 I started getting chest pain and sometimes it would wake me up at night, and I would shake until it finally went away about 15 minutes later. Also experienced over breathing like from an anxiety attach and was put of valuim which helped with the breathing. Later in life I've experienced muscle spasms in chest where you can't take a breath very easily, and scary but it subsides after a couple minutes otherwise I would have gone to the ER because its like a charlie horse, I am 59 now and still getting the pain and spasms, even spasms in neck that will cause one in chest. All test have been fine, although since I was 40 I started getting extra heart beats, now skipped and pausing and sometimes very fast. I do take klonopin which really seems to help when I get so freightened from spasms and pain. I do the treadmill at least 4 times a week, 3 miles an hour on a little incline. One doctor thinks I have to much adrenaline which can be causing my tight muscles(which is probably why I get the spasms) and can cause anxiety. There are test for that, they had me stand for 15 minutes and than take my blood and another time lay down for 30 minutes and take my blood. I just don't like not being able to commit to things in case my heart is having a bad flipping day. But I've been trying not to hold me down, in fact I'm taking a getting on a plane to go somewhere for the first time in years, although I plan to take Klonopin before boarding. Don't give up on life, its too short, find something that works for you, medication wise, meditation whatever., no one gets out of this world alive!
hi iv been having chest pains also dizzy spells from jan/Feb this year drs say its not my heart as iv had ecg then was sent for chest xray as they said i have crackly lungs but that came back clear so im back to square one the thing that gets me is im always yawning after a dizzy spell n chest pain n drs still carnt pin point whats wrong .
sitting upright, with your back straight instead of slumping may help. I've noticed mine has returned after a couple of years now I have been using my laptop quite a bit. I was very worried as my Intercostal Muscle Spasms were only happening on my left hand side. I was only 16 when I went to the Dr about it. He very nearly laughed, and I was offended because I was so scared. But just gently stretching the muscles out should help. And sit up straight! :)
I am 49 and have had muscle spasms in my ribs for a few years but, a week ago I had a spasm in or around my heart-it was very scary! I was stressed from the work I was doing at the time and almost called an ambulance but, I just tried to calm myself by breathing slow and it went away but, has been sore ever since. I have had anxiety for 14 years and take meds for it but, I beleive stress is the cause of it all! Good luck to everyone having this frightful thing happening!
