I was born in 1957. I had a double-contrast barium enema when I was in high school. This came as the result of a complaint of GI pain. They also checked to see if I had gall bladder disease, but my gall bladder did not show up. They said that sometimes after a person has had mononucleosis, that can happen. I had many more GI exams after that too, enough that I stopped mentioning it to my doctors. In my early 20's I had to be checked again. The pain was unbearable. I was diagnosed and treated for Crohn's disease. This did not make my GI pain go away, but it did change, and I had medication.
Finally, in my 50's, my doctor was certain that I needed gall bladder surgery. I had 3 HIDA scans where the Gallbladder did not show up, and then a CT scan that failed to show my Gallbladder. The surgeon said he knew I was suffering and he needed to do Gallbladder surgery. I asked how he could make that diagnosis when the HIDA scans all said NON-DIAGNOSTIC. The first thing they told me in the recovery room was that there was no Gallbladder. I had told the surgeon about the history of my hidden Gallbladder. I should have never listened to a doctor that was not interested in my long medical history.
I've learned how to deal with it, but sorry I had to wait so long to figure it out.

My son and daughter-in-law are expecting their baby girl in March. This week they were told that it looks like their baby does not have a gallbladder. Could you please give me the city, state and your doctor/surgeon’s name?
